NORTH CREEK - On the morning of his 94th birthday, Joseph P. Menaldino, peacefully passed away with his son and daughter at his bedside.

Joe was born September 22, 1929 in Rochester, New York to the late Paul and Caterina (Gedda) Menaldino.

Joe graduated from The Aquinas Institute of Rochester in 1947. In 1951, he graduated from the School of Foreign Service at Georgetown University. While at Georgetown, he was appointed Senior Manager of the varsity football team.

Following graduation from Georgetown, he was employed for 10 years by Bausch and Lomb in their International Division, six years of which he was manager of their New York City Export Office.

For 46 years, he operated G.T. Gregory Co., a firm that specialized in exporting optical, medical, and scientific equipment.

In 1996, he retired as Commissioner of Social Services for Warren County, having served 23 years in the position. He was considered very knowledgeable in the field of Medicaid. For several years, he was a member of the New York State Department of Social Services Advisory Committee for Medicaid.

He was an honorary life member of Queensbury Central Volunteer Fire Co., and a 47-year member of Glens Falls Elks Lodge #81.

His companion, Clara Fiore, also survives him.

He was loved by his grandchildren and they named him "Poppy". He was especially pleased to have taught them to ride their two wheel bicycles and to drive a car. He had a special bond with his great grandsons and was their "Pee Pa".

At Joseph's request, services will be held privately for his family.

I knew Mr. Menaldino when I worked at Warren County Social Services, but that was a long time ago. I also knew him through the church of the Messiah, but that was also not recently. Any time however I had a connection with him he was positive and an inspiration to do the best. I am sorry for your loss.

Paul, Kate, Clara, and family,
I was so sorry to read of Joe´s passing. I had the pleasure of working for him for many years. He was a hard worker, expected no less from his staff, but also left his door open for whenever he was needed. He lived a good long life and I hope your memories carry you through this hard time. Bless you Joe and condolences to all his loved ones.

My first professional job was as a Medicaid examiner for Warren County and Joe was my boss. From him I learned the importance of documentation, a skill that helped me for my entire career. We always knew when Joe was coming because his cigar smoke preceded him.
My condolences to his family and to Clara, who was always kind to me when I worked for DSS.

I first meet Joe as a young kid just out of college, looking for a job and hoping for an opportunity. Joe's confidence in me to hire and promote me to various positions at Warren County Department of Social Services shaped my life and continues to today. Warren County DSS was my first job; I met my wife, bought a house and my wife and I had three children while I worked there. I value the years I worked for Warren County and have Joe to thank for this experience, his leadership and friendship. Mike Nissen
