Joseph W. Pelkey

GREENWICH - Joseph W. Pelkey, 79, passed away on Sunday, March 17, 2024 at his home. Joseph was born on June 15, 1944 in Portsmouth, NH and was the son of the late Alice Pelkey Scott (the late Scotty) and William Bocchi.
He served proudly in the Marine Corps from 1961 to 1966. He worked for BOCES for over 30 years retiring as a School Tech Carrier.
After retiring he started his own business known as Pelkey Excavating. In addition to these careers he spent his lifetime as a local active musician (lead guitar and vocalist). He was active in several popular long term bands starting with Country Express in the late 1970's and currently the Old Friends Band. Music was his passion.
He also enjoyed hunting and fishing, especially with his good friends, Marty Dickinson and Rusty Ross.
Joe is survived by his companion/partner, Sheila Byrnes; and her son, John Byrnes IV; his children: Joe (Debby) Pelkey of Hudson Falls, Karla (Bill) Best of Mt. Dora, FL, William (Wink) Pelkey of Mt. Dora, FL and Jeff (Debbie) Pelkey of San Antonio, TX; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and several cousins.
This remarkable man was loved beyond measure . . . and words cannot express how much he will be missed by his family, his music family and friends. Rest in Peace Dearest Joe - May God hold you in the palm of his hands until we meet again.
Services will be private at the convenience of the family. There will be a Celebration of Life at the American Legion in Hudson Falls, where he was a member, in the near future with a date to be announced.
