Judith West Obituary

Judith "Judy" West

Oct. 18, 1942 - May 10, 2024

LAKE GEORGE - Judith "Judy" West, 81, of Lake George, passed away at home surrounded by family on May 10, 2024, after a brave battle with heart failure.

Born October 18, 1942, in Schenectady, she was the daughter of Emma and William Antalek.

Sadly, her father died while serving in WWII in 1944 but fortunately she was raised by her beloved mother Emma and stepfather, Paul Zemanek.

Judy graduated high school in 1960 from Mohonasen Central School and then moved to Glen Lake with her family. After high school, Judy graduated from Albany Business College in 1962. It was at Glen Lake where she met the love of her life, Gary West.

They were married in September 1965 at Our Lady of the Annunciation.

Judy worked as a Bookkeeper at the family business, West Signs, and worked at the Village of Lake George for many years.

Judy and Gary raised their three children: Dan, Aaron, and Wendy at Glen Lake, where they lived most of their lives together. The family loved the lake and enjoyed their time there with family, friends, and regular renters of their camp. Judy had an open-door policy at their home and loved to welcome visitors to stop by anytime. With an easy smile and generous heart, she often held spur of the moment gatherings and barbecues. It's no surprise that her home was the place for holiday meals and celebrations with the family.

Judy enjoyed reading, baking, leading Osteobusters at the Queensbury Senior Center, volunteering as an Adult Literacy Tutor, and traveling. She has had several memorable and wonderful trips which included cruises, getaways with friends and family, and vacations to Disney with her husband, children, and grandsons.

A loyal and giving friend, she cherished any opportunity to share laughter and games and good cheer. Her favorite thing to do was spending time with her family. She was a doting mom and grandma often calling to check in, sending notes, giving thoughtful gifts, but especially spending time with them. She was always supportive going to all the shows and games of her children and grandsons. She will be deeply missed.

Her survivors include her three children: Dan (Lisa) West of Hudson Falls, Aaron (Laura) West of Queensbury, and Wendy (Randy) Ovitt of Lake George; her grandsons: Garrett West, Connor West, Jake West, Nick West, Jordan Edwards, Blake West, and Pason Ovitt; her brother, Paul Zemanek (Sheryl); and many cousins, nieces, and nephews. She loved them all dearly.

In addition to her parents, Judy was predeceased by her sister, Kay Willigan and brother-in-law, Edward Willigan.

Visitation will take place on Tuesday, May 21, 2024 from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. at Baker Funeral Home, 11 Lafayette St., Queensbury, NY 12804.

A memorial will follow at 5:00 p.m. with the Rev. Liam Condon officiating.

Donations in her loving memory may be made to Bay Ridge Volunteer Fire Company, Inc., 1080 Bay Rd., Lake George, NY 12845.

Condolences and floral arrangements may be sent directly to Baker Funeral Home, 11 Lafayette St., Queensbury, NY 12804, or through www.bakerfuneralhome.com.

Was so sad to hear of Judy´s passing. She´s always been a special light in my family´s life. First as she worked with my dad at the Village of Lake George as a breath of fresh air when I visited the office. Then to be close with my mom in the later years. Both of my parents cherish the time and person your mom was. Thank you to her and so thankful to have known her. Bless you all
