Kenneth Howk Obituary

Kenneth Joseph Howk, Sr.

July 10, 1947 - October 17, 2023

Kenneth Joseph Howk, Sr., a proud and humble man, departed this world on October 17, 2023, at the age of 76. He was born on July 10, 1947, in Whitehall, New York, to his loving parents, George and Elizabeth (Jones) Howk.

Ken served his country with honor as a member of the United States Army during the Vietnam War. Though he seldom spoke about his experiences, his commitment to serving his nation filled him with pride. After his tour of duty in Vietnam, Ken began a new chapter in his life, working at Scott Paper for 26 years as a dedicated lift truck driver. His unwavering commitment extended beyond his work, as he also served as the Union President, advocating for the rights of his fellow workers.

Ken was preceded in death by his parents, as well as his three brothers, Steven, Richard, and George. He is survived by two brothers, Ronald Howk of South Glens Falls, NY, Michael Howk and wife Tori of Lakewood, OH, and his sister, Linda Howk-Smith and husband Jeffrey of Fort Ann, NY. His legacy lives on through his three sons: Kenneth Howk and wife BJ of New Braunfels, TX; Christopher Howk and wife Megan of Walkersville, MD; and Robert Howk of Troy, NY.

Ken leaves behind a loving family, including seven grandchildren, with one great-grandchild and two more on the way. He also leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins who cherished his presence in their lives.

In 1994, Ken made a new home in Tennessee, where he resided until his passing. He had a remarkable gift for bringing joy and laughter to those around him, always armed with a "good" joke to share. Ken's heart swelled with pride and love for his grandchildren, celebrating their growth and accomplishments. Hunting was his passion, and he eagerly anticipated deer season each year, relishing the time spent in the great outdoors.

Beyond his dedication to family, Ken shared his love for baseball. His experience as a semi-pro baseball player allowed him to inspire and nurture the next generation of athletes. He devoted many years to teaching, coaching, and umpiring baseball at the Fort Edward Little League Park, leaving a lasting impact on the young lives he touched.

Ken was a devoted friend to many, always willing to make sacrifices for those he loved. His quiet strength and generous spirit endeared him to all who had the privilege of knowing him. Kenneth Joseph Howk, Sr. will be deeply missed, but his memory will forever be cherished by his family and friends, a testament to a life well-lived.

A celebration of life for Ken will be held in Summer 2024. In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made in his name to Fort Edward Youth Baseball at any Glens Falls National Bank location.
