Kent Dixon Obituary
Kent Dixon, 88, of St. Petersburg, Florida, passed away peacefully on August 10, 2025 surrounded by his loving family.
Born on July 3, 1937 to Ronald and Evelyn (Flint) Dixon in Glens Falls and raised in Scotia, New York, Kent spent his youth enjoying summers at his grandparents' home on Lake George-inspiring a lifelong devotion to the Adirondacks. He graduated from Scotia High School in 1955 and earned his degree in Economics and English from Union College in Schenectady in 1959, where he was a member of the Chi Psi fraternity.
In 1960, Kent married his first wife Ann Purdy of Glens Falls, and together they had three daughters. His career in finance was distinguished by leadership in mergers, acquisitions, and the restructuring of Savings and Loans. In 1965 and 1966, he received the Outstanding Man of the Year Award from the Junior Chamber of Commerce. At age 44, he became the youngest Chairman and CEO of Schenectady Savings Bank. Under his leadership, the bank expanded into Hartford, Connecticut, becoming Northeast Savings-the largest Savings & Loan institution in New England at the time.
Throughout the 1980s, Kent served as CEO for several major Savings and Loans and held board positions with organizations including the United Way, Housing and Urban Development, Schenectady Museum, Chamber of Commerce, Hartford Symphony, and the Savings Bank Life Insurance Council of New York State. From the 1990s onward, he served nearly two decades on the Board of Directors for BlackRock mutual funds.
In retirement between Florida and the Adirondacks, Kent enjoyed spending time with his family, walking, daily tennis matches, world travel-including visits to China, Russia, Central and South America-and annual trips to Europe. He was an avid reader with a deep interest in history and politics.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 25 years, Evelyn Dixon of St Petersburg Florida and originally London, England; daughters Linda Dixon Stone, Laura Dixon Borst (Dave), and Debra Dixon Buckbee (Steve); sister Susan Dixon Herron (Michael); stepchildren Sharon McDonough (Mark), Lorraine Granger, Jason Leslie (Carol), Dionne Larsen (Michael), Scott Leslie; many adored grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
