Laurel Losee Obituary

Laurel A "Waite" Losee

November 14, 1956 - May 5, 2025

SALEM, NY - Laurie, a devoted mother, cherished grandmother, loving sister and friend passed away peacefully on Monday, May 5th, 2025 surrounded by her family at the age of 68. She was born in Granville, NY on November 14, 1956 and resided in Salem, NY for the majority of her life.

Laurie was a highly respected Registered Nurse; beginning her lifelong career at Mary McClellan Hospital in Cambridge, NY where she met and developed eternal friendships. Upon the closing of the hospital Laurie continued her career at various facilities ending with an extremely well deserved retirement from Great Meadow Correctional Facility in 2021.

Laurie looked forward to her vacations with family and friends that typically led her to the ocean. If there was ever a free moment she filled it with cooking for the village of friends and family that was always around. Laurie enjoyed sewing, watching Sunday football with family, taking her side by side on rides, watching the birds visit the porch and playing with her grandchildren whom she loved and adored wholeheartedly.

Laurie was predeceased by her husband Steve Losee, her father in law Calvin Losee and her father Raymond Waite.

Left to cherish her legacy she leaves behind her surplus of children and grandchildren; Jason (Nicole) Osterhaudt, Amy Osterhaudt, Howard "Ben" Osterhaudt, Marcy (Scott) Osterhaudt, Naomi (Evan) Jarvis, David (Shirley) Cary, Stephanie (Doug) Mattison, Bob Jarvis. Chase (Emma), Hayden, Madison, Grace, Max, Skyler, Willow, Madelyn, Calvin, Cadence, Bodhi, Sam, Nash, Tabitha and Kellie. As well as her Mother Anne, brothers David and Darrin and sister Lynda. Many loved nieces and nephews and very special friends that were like family to her.

A very special thanks to the ICU team at Saratoga Hospital for providing the level of comfort and care that allowed our Mom to finally be at peace.

Laurie's legacy will live on through the love and wisdom she passed on to her family and friends.

Services are scheduled for 11am on Tuesday May 13, 2025 at Salem United Methodist Church on West Broadway with Reverend Bessie.

My deepest condolences to Laurel´s family. I worked with her for such a short time at GMCF OMH. She was a devoted nurse, always thinking of her patient´s wellbeing first. She was always talking about her family and how much they meant to her. She will be missed...RIP Laurel. Mary Ann Price

Laurel has been my best friend for 41 years. We met at Mary McClellan in 1984. I was a new RN grad and she was night supervisor. She was so kind to me and I was ready to learn everything she had to offer. We became fast friends and soon enough, her sons Jason and Ben became friends with my stepsons Kris and Matt. I learned so much from her, so quickly. Our mutual love for medical knowledge soon became our connection. I remember her daughter Naomi saying that when we were sharing knowledge or contemplating diagnoses, it was like we spoke a foreign language. We enjoyed challenging ourselves and each other in medical information. As best friends, that was our love language. As we continued as friends, our careers grew apart, but we did not. During our busy years of raising kids and working, we didn't get together as much as we would have liked, but we kept in touch and we were absolutely each other's go to person. When minor illnesses struck, she called me and I her. During our common pregnancies, we again shared our experiences with each other. Fortunately, when both of my sons were born, she was supervisor those night and she literally held my boys first a handed them to me, I can't think of a better person to help bring them into the world. Again, as our careers took us in different directions, we always kept in touch. I had to stop work due to a medical condition and that gave me more time to keep up with her ever busy work schedule. When Laurel was able to retire, very were thrilled to start spending some real time together, which we did. When she fell ill in October of 2024, I was able to stop in, have coffee and help as I could.. As it became apparent that she was declining, I was able to spend more quality time with her. As this progressed, her family was ever accepting of my help and suggestions. It was a truly group effort. As a nurse, I've never witnessed a family that were all supportive without hesitation to what we could all do to help. She raised the most amazing kids ever. Jason, her intellectual mini me is a brilliant young man, with an awesome sense of humor, Ben is the strong silent guy, who would come and repair anything that needed repairs. Amy is the rock of the family and the glue as well. Marcy is the cleaner, helper and a ray of sunshine Naomi is forever learning from her Mom, taking care of lose ends. Chase, brought his Grandma so much joy, they were so very close. All of her grandkids brought her a daily dose of sunshine. She will be missed, so much by so many. I know she is flying with the hummingbirds and is free and at peace. Love you so much and we will meet again
