Marianne Piccione Obituary

Marianne Joan Piccione nee Wappett

June 10, 1949 - June 26, 2025

Born in 1949, Marianne was the oldest child of Ann and John Wappett. Growing up in Lake George with her four siblings, the family ran a small motel north of the village.

Marianne attended Warrensburg Central School after the third grade, and graduated in 1967. She was a Girl Scout for 30 years in the Adirondack Council, and went to Girl Scout Roundup in Idaho in 1965. She also enjoyed skiing, mainly at Gore Mtn. Thereafter, she attended Purdue University and then Syracuse University, and several other schools, ultimately accumulating a variety of degrees and certifications.

In 1972, she married Franco Piccione, and after living in Germany while he completed his ROTC obligation, the two lived in a number of locations, ultimately settling in Orlando, where she worked IT as both a technical associate as well as a professional trainer for Disney. They retired in 2010 and moved to Sevierville, Tennessee.

Marianne and Franco had one child, Alexander, who still lives in Florida, with his wife, Melissa.

Franco passed away on February 24, 2025 and Marianne followed on June 24, 2025, after a long illness.

In addition to raising their son, the two were very active in Boy Scouts in Florida, even bringing their troop up to Camp Wakpominee as well as guiding the troop on several international journeys. They continued their involvement with scouting through the great Smokey Mountain council in Tennessee after they retired.

Marianne is survived by four siblings, Eric, Geoffrey, Alexandra Dorsey (Dennis), and John (Stefanie), sister-in-law Frances Carson (Ted), as well as numerous nieces and nephews. All of the above became Disney fans due to the enthusiasm of Marianne and Franco.

Marianne is to be buried alongside Franco at the East Tennessee State Veterans Cemetery.

Thank you for choosing this picture of Marianne. I can hear her laugh - it was contagious. My many memories of times with Marianne in Lake George summers, Syracuse University and our sorority Zeta days will live with me. Marianne and Franco made a difference in the world.
