Mary E. Kastberg

GRANVILLE Mary E. Kastberg, 63, passed away on Sunday, Oct. 21, 2007. Mary was born on Dec. 9, 1943, in Kingston, N. Y., the daughter of James and Elizabeth (Ostrowe) Cleveland. Mary enjoyed her position as a teaching assistant at Granville Central School. Her knowledge and warmth had a lasting impact on her students. Her love of learning was demonstrated by her continuing studies at Adirondack Community College where she earned an associate degree with honors. Her interests outside of academics were gardening, sewing, literature, art and music. Her love of music was fulfilled by her participation in the Granville Area Chorus. The membership became an extension of her family. Mary was predeceased by her father, James Cleveland. Survivors are her mother, Elizabeth; a son, Orla James Rasmussen Kastberg and his wife, Amalia Maria Garcia, of Cabin John, Md.; daughter, Dr. Signe E. Kastberg and her husband, Richard David Leonard, of Zionsville, Ind.; two sisters, Jeanne Pettersen and her husband, Chris, of Virginia Beach, Va., and Estelle Hart of Atlanta, Ga.; four grandchildren: Vegas Francisco Garcia Kastberg, Sebastian Anton Pedro Kastberg, Mariliz Conoboy Cleveland Kastberg-Leonard, and Marianna Mae Pierce Kastberg-Leonard. Mary is also survived by a traveling companion and beloved friend, Theodore Firth II of Saratoga. Following Mary's wishes there will be no funeral service.
