Mary Rozell Obituary

HUDSON FALLS -- Mary H. Rozell, 72, of Main Street, passed away on Wednesday, Nov. 2, 2005.

Born on April 5, 1933, in Mount Kisco, N.Y., Mary was the daughter of the late Edmund and Mary (Collins) Liston.

She graduated from Plattsburgh State University in 1954 with a Bachelor of Science degree.

In 1960 her uncle, Bishop Liston, married Mary and Anthony Rozell at St. Francis Church in Mount Kisco. Anthony passed away on Aug. 30, 2000, after 40 years of marriage.

Mary was a school nurse/teacher for many years at the South Glens Falls School System, retiring in 1993.

She was a communicant of St. Mary's/St. Paul's Church in Hudson Falls.

Mary was a lover of life, culture, and people. She made a positive impact on people who met her in all stages of her life. She liked to go places and do things, to learn and discover. She was an explorer -- whether it was to the museums of the Northeast, to Paris, Italy or Ireland.

Mary played competitive tennis and zipped through her daily 5-mile walks. The great pleasures of her life were spending time with her children and friends.

Survivors include her five children: Matthew Rozell and his wife, Laura, of Hartford, Mary Rozell and her husband, William Adams, of New York City, Nora Rozell Thurmond and her husband, Jeb, of Keene, N.H., Ned Rozell and his wife, Kristen, of Fairbanks, Alaska, and Drew Rozell of Hebron; her two brothers, William Liston of Indiana and Edward Liston and his wife, Judy, of Maine; her two sisters, Frances Liston of Goshen and Kathleen Morrison and her husband, Jim, of Albany; her eight grandchildren, Emma Rozell, Ned Rozell, Mary Rozell, Samuel Adams, Luke Thurmond, Calvin Thurmond, Kelly Thurmond and Grethe Thurmond; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Friends may call on Sunday from 4 to 7 p.m. at Carleton Funeral Home, Inc., 68 Main St. in Hudson Falls.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Monday at St. Mary's/St. Paul's Church in Hudson Falls.

The Rite of Committal will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery in the town of Fort Edward.

The family suggests that memorial donations be made to the Fort Edward Rescue Squad, Inc., P.O. Box 226, Fort Edward, NY 12828.

Mary and Family: So sorry to hear about your Mom. I know you will miss her! My best memory of her is when we did the "Drug Interviews" in Mr. Potter's 6th grade, 1974. We needed to interview a nurse and your Mom volunteered to help us. She was so much fun! Thinking of you!

Mary, although many years and miles are between us,I still hold precious memories of the "old days"close to my heart. Please know that you and your family are in my thoughts and prayers at this time of sorrow. As Theresa put it so well, I too wish I could be there to give you a big hug.

I am so sorry to hear of Mary's passing. I knew Mary through Joe and MaryRose Legault. Being Joe's sister, I use to see Mary at their house a lot. She was a great fun girl.\
