Oct. 20, 1943 – Aug. 6, 2024
GLENS FALLS - Mary Anne Westfall, born October 20, 1943 in the Bronx, NY, to the late Dr. Thomas and Agnes Irene (Wilson) Baker, passed away Tuesday August 6, 2024 in Glens Falls, NY, surrounded by her loving family.
In addition to her parents, Mary Anne was predeceased by her husband, of 52 years, F. Franklin "Frank" Westfall, Jr., MD, her sister, Elizabeth O'Leary and nephew, John P. O'Leary.
Survivors include her sons: David Westfall (Joanne), Jonathan Westfall (Jenelle), Matthew Westfall (Maria), Paul Westfall (Kamal); her daughter, Suzanne Marth (Safdar); and her grandchildren: Ethan, Paige, Nicholas, Vincent, Julia, Daniel, Farrah, Ronan and Kieran. She is also survived by her siblings: Thomas Baker (Patricia), Kevin Baker (Kathleen), Charles Baker (Jeanne), Catherine Burns (Thomas), Suzanne Howard (Thomas, Deceased), Barbara Gaffuri (Paul); her brother-in-law, John O'Leary; and her many beloved nieces and nephews.
Mary Anne was raised in Yonkers, NY. She was the second eldest in a family of eight children. Her father was serving in the Pacific Theater during World War II when she was born and they did not meet until she was nearly three years old. Her six remaining siblings came along in the years after, and Mary Anne had many happy memories and funny stories from this time. Mary Anne graduated from Elizabeth Seton High School in Yonkers and got her Undergraduate degree in Political Science from Marymount College in Tarrytown, NY.
She was employed as an Executive Secretary at CBS in New York City. It was at this time that she met her husband, Frank, who was completing his Ophthalmology residency at Columbia Presbyterian. Mary Anne and Frank quickly fell in love and after a brief courtship; they were married and enjoyed 52 years together.
Mary Anne was an extremely hard worker. Once her five children were well into grade school, she returned to work and spent more than 35 years as Office Manager of the family medical practice where she was tireless. Outside of work, Mary Anne was selfless and always concerned about those in need. Her faith was paramount to her, guided her throughout her life, and played a big role in how she helped to raise her own family.
She had a great ability to provide reassurance and always managed an optimistic outlook. Her children always knew how much she believed in them.
In her free time she enjoyed playing tennis, ice skating, politics, and going to church. She loved to laugh, and perhaps this was best noted when she would catch up with her siblings over the phone. Those who remember Mary Anne will cherish her amazing sense of humor, her beautiful smile, her welcoming spirit, her kindness.
Mary Anne will be greatly missed by her family. Whenever her kids or grandkids would go on their way, she would remind them to, "laugh a lot"" Please remember her this way.
