Dr. Michael F. Sheehan, 86, passed away, with his loving family by his side, on Sept. 6, 2024, after a long illness.

He was an extraordinary father and grandfather. His children and grandchildren meant the world to him. Michael was born on November 16, 1937, in Fort Edward, NY, the son of the late Frank D. and M. Cecelia (McCormick) Sheehan.

Throughout his life, he was a champion athlete who loved playing sports. Michael graduated from Fort Edward High School in Fort Edward, NY in 1956, where he earned varsity letters in baseball, basketball, track, and football. In his senior year, he was All Conference halfback. He won All Conference in football (1954) and basketball in 1954 and 1955. He was a proud member of the Ironman football team in 1954, in addition to a high school track champion. Michael graduated from Georgetown University in 1960 with a BS degree, where he played basketball, baseball and football and was selected as a member of the Georgetown IM All-Star Team. He then graduated from Georgetown University Dental School in 1964 and became a lifetime member of the American Dental Association.

Michael went on to marry in 1964 and served as a Captain in the Air Force in Biloxi, MS (1964-1965). Michael settled in Glens Falls in 1965, where he started his Dental practice, and enjoyed practicing for 56 years.

He was an avid golfer, achieving five holes in one and won several championships at GFCC with longtime friends, James Yarter and Dr. Mitchell L Potvin, Jr. He is a past President of the GFCC (1979-1980). Michael was active member of the community and enjoyed teaching children about healthy teeth and dentistry. His love of travel took him across the U.S. and to Europe.

He was a beloved father and grandfather who loved to spend time with his grandchildren.

Michael had four children: Karen Sheehan-Nam and her husband, Phil, of Manhattan Beach, CA; Suzanne Sheehan-Jowly and her husband, Rick; Michael Sheehan and his wife, Koren, both of Queensbury, NY; and Christopher Sheehan and spouse, Sam of Buckhannon, WV. There are seven grandchildren: Richard Michael Jowly, Philip Michael Nam, Madison, Michael III and Ryan Sheehan and Lauren and William Sheehan. He is survived by his fiancé, Carole Wright, by cousin James Kane and daughters, as well as several other nieces, nephews and cousins.

Besides his parents, he was also predeceased by his three brothers: John "Jack", Paul and Joseph Sheehan.

A funeral mass in Glens Falls will be held for family and friends at St. Mary's Church on Tuesday, September 10, 2024, at 11:00 a.m., with calling hours beginning at 10:00 a.m.

He will be buried in St. Joseph's Cemetery in Fort Edward.
