Orla Bain Obituary

Orla Bain

February 3, 1925 - September 16, 2025

Orla Bain, a dedicated, spirited, and generous soul, passed away at home, on September 16, 2025, at the age of 100. Born on February 3, 1925, in Easton, New York, to the late Frank and Belle (Rafter) Bain. Orla was a respected and beloved member of the Greenwich community, where he spent the majority of his life.

Orla's life was a testament to his love for adventure, family, and his country. He enjoyed traveling and exploring the United States, often choosing to vacation at Old Orchard Beach, Maine, with his late wife, Catherine, and their children. His dedication to his country was evident in his proud service in the United States Army. He also served his local community in the Greenwich Fire Department, serving as a lifetime member for the past 67 years

Orla enjoyed writing in his various calendars daily, tracking the weather and keeping track of things happening around Greenwich. He enjoyed sitting on his front porch, hunting and fishing, gardening, and enjoyed driving on the backroads looking for deer. He was the bowling secretary for ABC.

Orla was known to "Supervise" his family when there were projects to be completed. He enjoyed bus trips, Bain family reunions, yard sales, tinkering in the garage, puzzles, playing cards and helping his wife in the kitchen. One of his biggest wishes was to be able to turn 100 years old.

Above all, the most important aspect of Orla's life was his family, he loved spending time with his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and family.

Orla is survived by his children: Beverly (Pete) Cenate of Greenwich, Thomas Bain of Idaho, and Donald (Vanessa) Bain of Greenwich; his grandchildren: David (Renee) Bain of Georgia, Keith (Katrina) Cenate of Salem, Tyler (Corina) Cenate of Greenwich, Erica (David) Labarge of South Glens Falls, Frederica (Sean) Murphy of Salem, Alexa (Jake) Wohlschlegal of Idaho, Jordan Hammond of Greenwich, and Jaggar Laird of Florida; great-grandchildren: Maikela Boyce, Kyra Murphy, Payton Bain, Phoenyx Watkins, Avery Bain, Isabel Cenate, Devin Murphy, Hunter Labarge, Thomas Cenate, Hayden Labarge, Taylee Wohlschlegal and Kian Murphy.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Catherine; daughter, Vicky Hammond; and stepdaughter, Betty Hoffman; and grandson, Travis Cenate; 13 siblings: Pauline, Clifford, Millard, Stanley, Chauncey, Wesley, Sara, Avery, Fred, Frank, Willard, Arthur and Philip.

Special thank you to his health care aides, Marilyn Peters, Stephanie Kessler, and Brenda Peets whom meant the world to him. We wouldn't know what to do without you. You all are part of the family and always will be.

Graveside services with military and fire department honors will be held at 1:00 PM on Tuesday, September 23, 2025, in the Greenwich Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to a charity of one's choice.

As we remember Orla, we invite you to share your memories and upload photos of him on his memorial page at www.flynnbrosinc.com. Your stories and pictures will serve as a testament to Orla's spirited and generous life. His legacy will continue to inspire all who knew and loved him.
