Peter Carleton Fraser
June 30, 1959 - Aug. 16, 2024
NORTH QUEENSBURY - Peter C. Fraser passed away peacefully at home on August 16, 2024, surrounded by loved ones. He was 65. Born on June 30, 1959, in Schenectady, NY, Peter was the beloved son of James MacKenzie and Claire Ruth (Carleton) Fraser.
Peter attended Loudonville Elementary before moving on to Shaker High School, where he excelled in football and wrestling, and graduated in 1977. Peter pursued higher education at SUNY Adirondack, earning his degree in the spring of 1979.
His professional journey began when his family purchased the Cleverdale Country Store in 1978. Peter joined the store as Assistant Manager and soon became the Manager in 1981. His vision and leadership transformed the Cleverdale Country Store into a renowned local landmark, recognized for its high-quality products and exceptional service.
In 1991, Peter and his then-wife, Cheryl, purchased the store, operating it as a family-run establishment for 25 years. Under Peter's stewardship, the store became more than just a business - it became a community hub where locals turned for both practical needs and common-sense advice. His guiding principle at the store, "Our selection brings you in, our quality brings you back," encapsulated his dedication to providing the best for his community.
Peter was deeply involved in the community beyond his work at the store. He served as a dedicated firefighter with the North Queensbury Volunteer Fire Company for 45 years, holding various roles, most notably, President. His contributions extended to organizing Thursday night dinners, which became a cherished tradition. Peter was also an EMT with the North Queensbury Rescue Squad. In addition to his work with the store and NQVFC, he developed a real estate portfolio by restoring old homes to their former glory via his passion for using repurposed materials.
Known for his generosity and selflessness, Peter's life was a testament to his unwavering commitment to others. Peter's greatest joy came from his family.
He is survived by his son, Heath; daughter, Mackenzie, and her husband, Eric; as well as grandchildren: Kennedy Claire and Grayson James. He also leaves behind his siblings: Judith, Bruce (Kathleen), Andrew (Suzanne), and James, Jr. (Jessica); as well as many cousins, nieces, and nephews. Peter was predeceased by his parents and his brother, Scott.
The family wishes to extend their heartfelt thanks to Peter's significant other, Danielle Sisco, and long-time family friend, Molly Moynihan, for their support, especially for the extraordinary care during Peter's final months.
A memorial service to honor Peter's life will be held on Sunday, September 8, 2024 at 10:00 a.m., at the Strand Theatre in Hudson Falls. All who knew and loved Peter are welcome to join.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the North Queensbury Volunteer Fire Company in Peter's memory.

My sincere condolences to the entire Fraser family. I was fortunate to have Peter as a lifelong friend enjoying water skiing at their family camp years ago, golfing (most notably the House of Scott´s Tournament at the Sagamore), riding motorcycles, and his company at the Firehouse. He was always someone to turn to for advice on projects at the lake or an apartment house issue. I really respected his knowledge and opinion. I was honored that he included me in several Fraser Fests at the family cottage which I really appreciated and enjoyed. Rest In Peace my friend.
