Robert "Bob" Ernest Crofut

MOREAU - Robert "Bob" Ernest Crofut, 96, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his family on Tuesday, March 17, 2026.

Born on May 10, 1929, in Salem, N.Y., he was the son of the late Robert and Tura (Dennison) Crofut.

Bob graduated from the Salem Washington Academy. After high school, he enlisted in the Air Force where he proudly served our country. He was stationed in Japan for two years and participated in over 30 flights for inventory collection of army equipment destined for demolition after World War II.

On September 6, 1952, Robert married the love of his life, Marilyn Fisher. They married at the First Presbyterian Church in Salem, N.Y. They spent 73 bountiful years together.

Bob was employed by Finch Pruyn and Company as a foreman in pulp preparation for 33 years until his retirement.

He was also an active member of the Moosewood Hunt Club, the American Legion Mohican Post 553, American Legion in Salem, N.Y. and a Cub Scout Leader.

There were many things Bob enjoyed in life. Family was certainly a theme, with him having built a home in 1978. He was also an avid hunter and fisherman, spending much of his time outdoors and in nature. Though the places he visited were many, some of his favorites included Las Vegas, Maine, Florida, and Alaska. Passing time through these escapades he would usually play card games such as pinochle and euchre.

In addition to his parents, Bob is predeceased by his son, Kristopher Crofut Sr; his grandson, Joshua Crofut; his son-in-law, GeneTucker; and his sisters, Eleanor France, Norma Alexander, Joyce Debonis, and Caroline Cubert.

Left to cherish his memory include his wife, Marilyn Crofut; his children, Alexandra Tucker and Keith (Sara) Crofut; his grandchildren, Brianna Schaefer, Kara (Tom) Dennis, Kristopher Crofut Jr, Justin (Nora) Geiger, Michael (Danielle) Geiger, Ethan (Kimberly) Crofut, and Jaired (Brittany) Crofut; 15 great-grandchildren, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

At Bob's request there will be no calling hours. Burial and services will be private and at the convenience of the family.

Memorial donations may be made to a charity of one's choice.
