Robert Humphries Obituary

SOUTH GLENS FALLS Robert Humphries, 80, of Riverview Street, passed away Sunday, Oct. 14, 2007, at the Glens Falls Hospital after a long illness. Born on July 26, 1927, in the Bronx, he was the son of the late Melville Lawrence and Helen Alice (Tookey) Humphries. Bob was a World War II Navy veteran and a member of the South Glens Falls American Legion Mohican Post 553. He retired from General Electric Co. in Hudson Falls and was a member of the Quarter Century Club. He was a member of the South Glens Falls United Methodist Church. In the early years of his retirement, Bob worked with wood, making assorted craft items. Later he worked on a loom making squares for lap robes and quilts. He enjoyed going to camp on Goodnow Flow in Newcomb which he helped to build. Bob loved his children, their spouses and his grandchildren. On Nov. 16, 1952, Bob married Mildred (Kennedy) at the old Baptist Church in South Glens Falls. Besides his parents, a brother, Jim Humphries also predeceased him. Survivors besides his wife of 54 years include his children, Melody Kobor and her husband, Dennis, of South Glens Falls, Donna Amell and her husband, Don, of Argyle, Robert Humphries and his wife, Julie, of South Glens Falls; his grandchildren: Ryan and Nicole Kobor, Jason and Staff Sergeant Jesse Amell, Peyton and Ashton Humphries; his sister, Gloria Stoughton of Fort Edward and several nieces and nephews. Friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 16, 2007, at the M.B. Kilmer Funeral Home, 136 Main St., South Glens Falls. E-mail condolences may be sent at www.kilmers.com. Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 17, 2007, at the funeral home with the Rev. Kelly Warner, pastor of the South Glens Falls United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will follow at Southside Cemetery, Town of Moreau. Donations may be made in his memory to the Moreau Emergency Squad, 1583 state Route 9, Fort Edward, NY 12828-9433.
