Robert Maltbie Obituary

Robert Michael Maltbie Sr., 89, of Warrensburg, N.Y., passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 14, 2025-just nine days short of celebrating his 90th birthday.

Born on September 23, 1935, Robert was a graduate of Warrensburg Central School and Colgate University. Following his studies, he proudly served his country in the United States Air Force, rising to the rank of lieutenant colonel. During his distinguished career, he flew F-4 Phantom missions in the Vietnam War.

After completing his military service, Robert returned home to manage the family's automotive business, Maltbie's Chevrolet in Lake George, N.Y., alongside his brothers William and Samuel. He guided the dealership with dedication and integrity until his retirement in 2015.

Robert was also a gifted athlete, excelling in basketball and baseball during his youth. His love of sports and his competitive spirit remained a hallmark of his character throughout his life.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Meredith Jane Wilcox, who passed away in 2000. Together they built a family that was Robert's greatest pride and joy. He is survived by his four sons: Robert, his eldest, followed by James, Jeffrey, and Timothy. He also leaves behind seven grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren, who will carry forward his legacy of love, perseverance, and strength.

Those closest to Robert were blessed to share in his final chapter of life and to experience his humor, wisdom, and love in his final lap. As we say goodbye, we take comfort in knowing that he is now flying his final mission-this time at a much higher altitude.

A celebration of Robert's life will be held at his preferred venue, with details to be announced in approximately three weeks.
