Ruth Macy Obituary

Ruth E. Macy

Ruth Ellen Macy, beloved mother, grandmother and friend, passed away peacefully on Friday, February 20, 2026, at Home of the Good Shepherd in Moreau. She was 94 years old.

Born at home on October 22, 1931, in Glens Falls, Ruth was the daughter of Howard and Dorothy (Perkette) Hemstreet. She grew up in Fort Edward and graduated as a salutatorian from Fort Edward High School in 1949.

With her first husband, Alfred Clear, she settled in Glens Falls, N.Y., and raised four children as a stay-at-home mother. Later she was employed by Glens Falls Hospital and the Glens Falls Civic Center.

In 1980, she married Jack Macy. Together they enjoyed many happy years together until Jack's death in 2014. They traveled frequently and especially loved their time camping in the Northeast and escaping winters with trips to Aruba and Myrtle Beach.

Ruth found joy gardening in her yard and taking trips with her friends at the senior center. Their excursions to Ireland and religious sites in Medjugorje were particularly memorable.

In addition to her parents and husband, Ruth was predeceased by her infant sister, Jane Hemstreet.

She is survived by her children, Carol Berry (Glenn Rode) of Queensbury, N.Y., Kathryn Shaw of Glens Falls, N.Y., Daniel Clear (Kathi Mancini-Clear) of Dallas, Texas, and Timothy Clear (Alesia) of South Burlington, Vt., as well as nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Ruth was a wonderful mother and grandmother and will be greatly missed by all of those whose lives she touched.

Friends and family are invited to pay their respects at Singleton Sullivan Potter Funeral Home, 407 Bay Road, Queensbury, on Wednesday, March 4, from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. Services will follow at the funeral home at 12 noon.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Open Door Mission, 226 Warren Street, Glens Falls, NY 12801.

The family thanks the staff at Home of the Good Shepherd for providing Ruth with a loving and compassionate home in her last years. Appreciation is also extended to The Community Hospice for their support.
