William ("Willy") Abraham Whitcomb, 76, of Greenwich, NY passed away on September 16, 2025, after a brief illness, at Glens Falls Hospital.
Willy was born on December 10, 1948, in Burlington, VT to the late George Paterson Whitcomb and Barbara Marjorie (Wortheim) Whitcomb. Willy is otherwise predeceased by his sister, Sarah Jane Whitcomb, and his longtime partner, Rae Louise (King) Scribner. Willy worked at the Whitcomb Family Farm in Richmond, VT as a youngster, then soon found a love of big trucks and all things cars. He worked for Lamell Lumber in Essex, VT and Barrett Trucking in Burlington, VT, among others during his career. He was a quiet, simple, and caring person, who would lend a helping hand whenever it was needed. Willy was a well-known part of his neighborhood, where he helped shovel driveways and mow lawns, and enjoyed having long conversations with his neighbors. He enjoyed his friendship with Barbara and Victor LaVoie and talking about all the pastimes. Willy loved to spend time and travel with the love of his life, Rae.
Rae brought four children into the relationship, who survived Willy, including Karen (John) Nevins, Lance (Heather) Scribner, Celia Scribner (Ted Fowler), and Brendan (Deborah) Scribner; and ten grandchildren, Shalyn, Emily, Kristine, Brittany, Breana, Ethan, Bryan, Thomas, Riley, and Charlie, who Willy loved as his own. Willy transitions into his next life leaving many family members and friends who will carry on his memory.
In lieu of flowers or donations, individuals can donate to the Dana Farber Cancer Institute, Attn: Contribution Services-10 Brookline Place West, 6th Floor, Brookline, MA 02445. Calling hours will be held at Flynn Brothers, Inc. Funeral Home, located at 80 Main Street, Greenwich, NY 12834, on Saturday, October 4, 2025, between 1 to 2:00 p.m., with a memorial service to follow at 2 p.m.
