Donald Hinds Obituary

Donald Arthur Hinds was born November 29, 1934 in Poteau, OK to Arthur and Lois Hinds. He passed from
this life on November 7, 2023, at his home in Loving, OK. He was the eldest of 6 children, including four
brothers: Jerry, Bill, David, Tim; and one sister Janey. A graduate of Heavener High School, class of 1953, he
went on to enlist in the Army where he served his country as paratrooper. He was honorably discharged from
the Army in 1957 after serving overseas in Germany. He went on to graduate from Northeastern University in
Tahlequah, OK in 1965 with a B.S. degree in Biology. He was a school teacher on the Navajo Reservation in
Window Rock, AZ from 1968 to 1980, and at Spiro High School from 1980 to 1998. Donald was a Deacon and
a Sunday School Teacher at Mt. View Baptist Church in Glendale, OK and a member of the Gideons where he
ministered to inmates in prisons and jails.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Barbara, his 4 children John, Teresa, Michael and April, his 3
grandchildren Matt, Kelly, and Barbara, and 1 great-grandson, Miles. Funeral services will be held in the
Chapel of Evans and Miller Funeral Home in Poteau, OK at 10am on Wednesday, December 13. Burial will
follow at Oakland Cemetery in Poteau.
Pallbearers will be John Hinds, Michael Hinds, Mathew Hinds, Kelly Johnson, and Andrew Wiles. Miles
Andrew Wiles will serve as honorary pallbearer.
