Jerry Harmon Memoriam

Jerry always had a soft spot in his heart for his mother. Jerry loved animals and learned at a very young age to trap squirrels, raccoons and lots of animals. He was a kind loving person. He always helped his dad building houses, then got a job at Winn Dixie Store making making a quarter an hour. Later, he got a job as an usher at the theater at $1.25 hour … big money.
As a child, he and the neighbor kids would go down to the "swamp" with a watermelon that they put in the water to cool off until they were finished playing. He always had a fondness for convertibles (owning a 2002 corvette/convertible). He could fix just about anything, always fixing and selling cars.
In 1958, he enlisted in the United States Air Force and was sent all over the world. When he lived in Thailand, he had house servants that he was paying a quarter a day each until the major confronted him that his servants were making more than he (the major) was, so he had to drop their wages to a nickel a day. Jerry had his Monte Carlo shipped over there, but had to remove the tires every night so they wouldn't be stolen.
While in Thailand, he traveled back and forth to Vietnam instructing in aircraft maintenance. Jerry retired from the military in 1978 with total disability.
Jerry is survived by his wife Debbie, three sisters Gloria, Glenda and Trisha, three brothers Ronnie, Grady and Daniel, three children Susan Elizabeth, Steven Michael and Sharon Elaine from North Carolina, two stepchildren Sara Jo Hash and Ross Hash, numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, other relatives, loved ones and friends.
A private service will take place under the direction of Evans and Miller Funeral Home.
