Edward Edwards Obituary

Edward Leroy Edwards, 83, passed away the morning of Friday August 16, 2024, at his residence in Prairie Village, KS after battling lung disease and other related health issues for the last several years.

Ed, or Eddie, as he was known in his younger years, was born on May 30, 1941, to Lloyd and Lucille Edwards in Wamego, KS and was an only child. He attended elementary school in Laclede, KS before graduating from Wamego Rural High School in 1959. Shortly thereafter, he moved to California to work in the construction industry during the 1960's housing boom. After working there, he figured out that wasn't where he wanted to be and returned home to farm and enroll at Kansas State University. He attended class for one year then was drafted into the United States Army in 1963. During the Vietnam war, he served in the 13th Psychological Warfare Battalion in Korea before being honorably discharged back to work the family farm in 1965.

After returning from Korea, he started dating, and in time, married Linda Jane "Janie" Johnson on December 18, 1966. Once settled, Ed and Janie had two children - Eric L Edwards born March 29, 1970 and Ryan H Edwards born December 19, 1972. He farmed with his father for almost 20 years before starting a new career in the early 1980's working at Vanderbilts in Wamego, KS. After a brief move to Colorado and then back to Lawrence, KS in 1989, he eventually started E. Edwards Work Wear with his two sons in 1998 which is where he worked until his health forced him to retire in 2016.

Ed was preceded in death by his mother - March 16, 1989; his father - June 5, 2000; and his daughter-in-law Megan (Eric) - April 6, 2021. He is survived by his wife Janie, to which he was married for almost 58 years, their two sons, Eric and Ryan, four grandchildren (Eric) - Reed L Edwards, Helen "Reese" Hoag (Austin), Phoebe W Edwards, and Edward L Edwards, and one great-granddaughter Reese Miller "Millie" Hoag.

Those who knew Ed know he hated being in the spotlight, therefore no funeral or memorial service will be held. Instead, he wanted his remains spread at the family farm where he was raised and always wished to be.
