Faye Shaw Obituary

Faye (French) Shaw passed away on January 3, 2022, at Meadowood Senior Living Community in Lansdale, PA. Born in Spokane, Washington in 1926, she was the beloved wife of James Shaw to whom she was married for 73 years. Faye is survived by her husband, their 4 children, Barbara Lessig wife of William, Bonnie Buchak wife of Edward, Michael Shaw husband of Sadia Zoubir, and Melissa DeLong wife of James, 11 grandchildren, and 10 great grandchildren. Faye met Jim at UCLA while both were studying chemistry. She received her Master’s degree from West Chester University and was hired by Ursinus College to teach freshman chemistry. She retired from Ursinus in 1990. Faye was a long-time resident of the Boyertown area. She was an active member of Good Shepherd United Church of Christ in Boyertown where she made many lifelong friends. She was also involved in local school and community activities. Faye loved the outdoors and continued to go hiking and camping into her 70’s. She was an avid traveler and bridge player and she enjoyed planning family reunions. Faye and Jim have lived in Meadowood for the last 17 years where they enjoyed an active life. Faye was cremated, and in the Spring a private memorial and burial service will be held for her ashes at the Bertolet Cemetery in Oley, PA where her parents and grandparents are buried. Faye will be greatly missed for her sunny disposition, devotion to her family and concern for others.

I worked as a student laboratory assistant for Mrs. Shaw for four years while at Ursinus College. She was always in a positive mood, offering many practical hints for the laboratory and life in general. I am sorry that she is now gone, but it is a gift that she did live until 96.
What a lady...what an example!
I do think of her often now that I am a biology/biotechnology professor at a small college, and I carry on her tradition of laboratory excellence with caring!
