Gladys Banks Obituary

Gladys (Collins) Banks, 86, of Phoenixville, Pa., entered Heaven’s gates on Wednesday, November 23, 2016. She was the wife of the late Herman Banks. She was born in Devereux County, Georgia to the late Eddie and Rosa Lee (Lundy) Collins. Gladys worked at The Phoenixville Children’s Learning Center as a cook for a number of years. She then worked at Pennhurst State Hospital until transferring to Norristown State Hospital where she retired. Her favorite hobbies included: flower gardening, cooking, sewing, and collecting knick knacks and her favorite dolls. She also had an impressive hat collection, but what she loved most was family gatherings. She was a long time member of Bethel Baptist Church in Phoenixville, Pa where she served on the usher committee, choir, and missionary. Surviving her are five daughters, Elaine Blount, wife of Robert Blount, Joyce Rumley of Phoenixville, Laverne Jackson, wife of Fennel Jackson Jr., San Jose Calif., Judy Banks, Pottstown, Maxine Banks, Reading, and one son Lonnie Flagg, Coatesville. She had 17 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren, one great-great grandchild, a daughter in law Mary Flagg, and devoted nephew Robert Flagg. She was predeceased by her son, Ernest Flagg Jr. A viewing will be held 10 - 11 AM followed by a funeral service at 11 AM on Thursday, Dec. 1st 2016 at Bethel Baptist Church 412 Fairview St., Phoenixville, Pa 19460, then burial to follow at Morris cemetery Phoenixville, Pa. You are not your age nor the size of clothes you wear, you are not your name or the dimples in your cheeks. You're the sweetness in your laughter and every tear you've cried, you're the places that you've been to and the things that you believe. You're made of so much beauty that we ne'er will forget. You're the songs you sing so loudly when you know you're all alone. You're the places that you've been to and now God's called you HOME.
What a wonderful mother, friend and neighbor God placed in my life. I love your flower garden.
