Jan Hartenstine Obituary

Jan L. Hartenstine, 61, of Pottstown, passed away on Friday, January 8, 2021 at her residence. Born in Pottstown, PA, she was a cherished daughter of the late Raymond C. Hartenstine, Jr. and the late Rosemarie L. (Schutz) Hartenstine. Jan was a 1980 graduate of Pottstown High School & Perkiomen Valley High School, and then went on to attend DEC Workshop (Pottstown and Willow Grove) until 2016 and Bon Homie (Limerick) from 2016 - 2020. Jan’s genuine, contagious laugh and terrific sense of humor earned her friends wherever she went, and she loved to travel, work on puzzles, and sing and dance to favorite music (particularly polka and Christmas carols). Jan had many star turns performing with Harmony Theater, a performing arts collaborative for adults with disabilities at Gwynedd-Mercy College, and also enjoyed worshipping with Rejoicing Spirits at St. James Lutheran Church in Pottstown. Jan is survived by her devoted sister, Amy R., wife of Todd Daniels, Pottstown; loving caregiver Carol Frison and other caring staff; cousins, Kay D. Rice, Sallie Drumheller, Robert Hartenstine, Jr., and Craig Hartenstine; an aunt, Nancy Hartenstine, other cousins and members of the Daniels family, and many loving friends. She was predeceased by a cousin, Susan D. Burnett; an aunt, Doris Drumheller, and an uncle, Robert Hartenstine, Sr. A graveside service will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Saturday January 23, 2021 at Edgewood Cemetery, High & Keim Streets, Pottstown. The family asks that everyone follows CDC guidelines by wearing masks and social distancing. The Reverend David Dubbeldamn will officiate. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in her memory to Shared Support South, 185 Titus Ave., Warrington, PA 18976, or Seasons Hospice (www.seasons.org for more information). The family also asks that loved ones honor Jan’s memory by wearing purple whenever possible, clapping and rubbing your hands in happiness when you hear a good joke or song, and treating everyone with the same joyful, open heart and generosity of spirit that Jan greeted the world with every day of her life. Arrangements are by the Schumacher & Benner Funeral Home & Crematory, at 359 King St. in Pottstown, PA. Our web site exists to serve the friends and family of the deceased.
