Angelo Cauchi Obituary

Angelo Cauchi

Poughkeepsie - Angelo Cauchi, born on August 8, 1931 in Gela, Sicily, passed away at the age of 86 on Sunday May 20, 2018. The 3rd of eight children, Angelo was raised in a loving family in a difficult era which shaped him into the good and loving person that he was. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Emanuela Cauchi, their two children Emanuele Cauchi & Maria Burke, son-in-law David Burke, grandchildren Bianca & Anthony Sicari, Angelo Cauchi, Patrick Burke & Isabella Burke as well as a sister Serina Cauchi In Sicily. Angelo was predeceased by his parents, six siblings & daughter-in-law Clelia Cauchi.

At the age of 38, Angelo together with his family moved to Poughkeepsie, N.Y. to be closer to his wife's family and successfully pursue a better future for his children.

Angelo was an honest and hardworking man that since childhood set out to provide for his family. A singing mason who deeply enjoyed his craft; the quality of which is reflected in both professional & personal projects. Already a trained mason when arriving to Poughkeepsie, he quickly became a member of the Local 44 Bricklayers & Allied Craftsmen Union, where he worked and was respected for 25 years. He remained connected to his origins traveling frequently to Italy with his wife & children to visit family & friends and pass on the traditions of his homeland. This carried through with his membership at the Local Italian Center in Poughkeepsie.

A loving, caring, kind and gentle soul, Angelo was able to transmit a smile to all those who encountered him with a joke or song.

We would like to invite all family and friends to pay last respects & celebrate his life. The wake will be held on Thursday May 24th at Michael Torsone Memorial Funeral Home Inc., 218 Mill St. in Poughkeepsie between 4 p.m. - 8 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Friday May 25th at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, 95 Mill St. in Poughkeepsie with Entombment to follow at Saint Peters Cemetery.
