Ann Linden

AMENIA, NY - Ann Linden, 76, a longtime resident, Amenia businesswoman and community leader in Amenia, NY, died on Friday, September 29, 2017 at her home.

Born on August 11, 1941 in Bensonville, IL, she was the daughter of the late Carl and Barbara (Cowles) Linden. She attended Middlebury College in Vermont and received a Bachelor's of Arts degree and attended graduate school at New York University in New York City. After college, Ann worked as a grammar school teacher in Brooklyn and later taught art at the Webutuck Elementary School. Ann owned and operated the Red Hen Sign Company in Amenia for over 20 years.

Among her many community activities, Ann was the founder, a charter member and past president of the Business Women's Network in Amenia. The founder and past president of the Webutuck Country Schoolhouse Association and a member of the Amenia Historical Society, she was instrumental in the revitalization of the one-room Indian Rock 1858 Schoolhouse in Amenia. Ann was a trustee and foundation member of the Maplebrook School in Amenia and a recipient of its prestigious President's Award.

A friend of Ann's wrote, "Ann had a passion for children and educating them in creative and innovative ways. As a Maplebrook School Foundation member and trustee for many years, her ideas enhanced the Arts program and were instrumental to the success of the School's annual Art Show. Moreover, she helped bring historical memorabilia, photos, books and clothing to life for local students and seniors through the creation of popular trunk exhibition programs."

Ann was a creative person and had a zest for living that many others could not equal. I knew her from Fenton High School in Bensenville. She made the rest of the world a better place.
