Barbara A. Piro

POUGHKEEPSIE - Barbara A. Piro was born in Poughkeepsie to parents Robert & Mary Neuheisel Vredenburgh. She was a graduate of Poughkeepsie High School, Hudson River State Hospital School of Nursing, SUNY New Paltz, and received her BSN from Columbia University. She was married at St. Mary's Church to her husband Richard A. Piro. Her career began as an OR Nurse at the Neurological Institute at Columbia Presbyterian Hospital in New York. She became a successful business woman, previous owner of Poughkeepsie Uniform Center, New Directions Maternity Boutique, and Maratelle Lingerie and Mastectomy Boutique. In recent years, Barbara continued providing mastectomy fittings at Maratelle Boutique at St. Francis Hospital, Westchester Medical Center, Poughkeepsie.

She was active in the Arlington Business District, serving as a President of the Arlington Council, and a member of the Board of Directors of the Business Improvement District from it's inception. Her dedication and commitment to the Arlington Business Community, and her participation in the events and initiatives there gave her much satisfaction and pleasure for many years. Barbara lived a full and meaningful life.

Enjoying homes in Poughkeepsie and Naples, Florida, Barbara was also an active member of Dutchess Golf and Country Club, the Poughkeepsie Tennis Club, and the Vineyards Golf and Country Club in Naples.

Barbara is survived by her husband, Richard A. Piro, daughter Jill Piro Harshbarger, son-in-law David Harshbarger, grandsons Paul and John, granddaughter Thalia, brother & sister-in-law Louis & Angela Piro, niece Katherine Piro, and many other nephews and nieces.

Visitation will be Friday, June 5, 2015, 4-7 PM at the Wm. G. Miller & Son FH, Inc., 371 Hooker Ave., Poughkeepsie, NY 12603. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:30AM at Holy Trinity Church, 775 Main St., Poughkeepsie, NY 12603. Burial will follow in the family plot in St. Joseph's Cemetery. Memorial Donations in lieu of flowers may be sent to the Herb & Sue Ann Redl Center for Cancer Care at Mid Hudson Regional Hospital, 241 North Rd., Poughkeepsie, NY 12601.
