Barbara Mishk Obituary

Barbara Mishk

Barbara Mishk, 84, died peacefully in her home in Port St. Lucie, Florida on March 22, 2016. Barbara was born January 12, 1932 in Lynnbrook, NY to the late George and Ruth (Walsh) Schindler. She is predeceased by her first husband. A few years after his passing, she wed David R. Mishk, who has been by her side for the last 51 years. Although Barbara and David have been living in Florida since 1992, she spent most of her life living and working in New York. She loved the lights and excitement of New York City and always called New York her home. Barbara worked for many years as a pharmacy clerk where she had the opportunity do what she loved - meet and talk to new and familiar people. She loved nothing more than the company of others. Barbara was no stranger to adversity, but she lived her life full of joy and laughter surrounded by family, friends and anyone else whose ear she could catch.

In addition to her parents and first husband, Barbara is predeceased by her sister, Adele Schindler, and one grandchild. Barbara is survived by her devoted husband, David Mishk, her loving children, James Mishk (Patty) of Fishkill, NY, Charles Mishk (Marcy) of Wassaic, NY and Susan Thordsen (Hugo) of Brunswick, GA; five adoring grandchildren, Robert Mishk, Jeremy Mishk, Nicole (Gatto) Caccamo and her husband Anthony, Jonathan Mishk and his wife Ashlee and Kyle Mishk; and six great-grandchildren. Barbara was a one-of-a-kind woman whom we will hold forever in our hearts and prayers.

Family will receive visitors on Monday, March 28 from 5-9pm at Edward F. Carter Funeral Home, 170 Kings Ferry Road, Montrose, NY. Funeral will be held Tuesday, March 29 at 10am at Edward F. Carter Funeral Home with burial to follow at Rosehill Memorial Cemetery in Putnam Valley, NY. To leave online condolences please visit http://www.dignitymemorial.com/edward-f-carter.

Mom, I miss you so much. You were my best friend and confidant. You were always there to lend an ear and give me advice. I only wish I could have more time with you. I know you are having that big coffee klatch with all your friends, say hello to everyone for me. I love you Mom. Susan

My dearest Grandma. There are no words to express the love I had for you or the sorrow that I feel now. I will just say, I love you, and I will carry you forever in my heart. You were one of a kind. May you rest forever in paradise with those you love (and Ol' Blue Eyes).
