Beverly Souers Obituary

Beverly Souers

FISHKILL - FISHKILL - Beverly Bernice Souers, 87, a resident of Fishkill, NY for sixty one years, died Friday May 3, 2013 in her sleep at home after a full and wonderful life with her family and friends.

Born in Kingston, NY on February 1, 1926, she was the only child of the late Christopher and Caroline Bonesteel. On June 29, 1947, she married the love of her life, Robert C. Souers in Kingston. Beverly graduated from Kingston H.S., and U. of Michigan with a B.S. in Music.

In 1952, with two children, Beverly and Robert moved to Fishkill. Until retirement, Beverly taught music at grade schools in the Wappingers Central School District, and taught private piano lessons.

Beverly and Robert were members of the Fishkill United Methodist Church where Beverly played piano and organ, and sang in the choir. Caring for her five children, she was a "music mom", taking kids to lessons, summer band, ballet, performances and art classes. Beverly enjoyed many lifelong projects including house additions, vacation homes, refinishing furniture, gardening, and constructing crafts. She loved many activities with her family, including: attending original Broadway musicals in NYC like "My Fair Lady", "Oklahoma", "The Sound of Music", "Camelot", "The Pajama Game"; making costumes for her children's ballet performances; hiking, camping and boating in the Catskills and Adirondacks.

Although afflicted with Alzheimers, Beverly was able to live out her life in her own home, happy and content in daily activities supported by family and friends, participating in family events and holidays, and playing her piano from instinct or memory.

Beverly will be greatly missed by her children and their spouses: David and Linda Souers, Rhinebeck, NY; Cherie and David Giddings, Readsboro, VT; Stephanie and Chris Dickerson, Hoschton, GA; Brian and Denise Souers, Lincoln, ME; Kevin and Cyndi Souers, Fishkill, NY; her grandchildren: Aimee Follette, Bethany Souers, Joanna Souers, Sarah Coughlin, Rebecca Keppler, Cloelle Giddings, Wyatt Lord, Whitney Souers, and Breanne Souers; 3 great-grandchildren: Ava Keppler, Lilly and Ellie Lord; her second cousin Barbara Matthias of Staten Island; her sister-in-law, Joan Buddenhagen and husband Douglas of San Diego, CA, and sister-in-law Kay Souers of Kingston, NY, and nieces and nephews. Beverly was predeceased by her husband Robert, her parents, cousin Mildred Decker, brothers-in-law Arthur and Jay Souers, and nephew Allen Souers.

A celebration of Beverly's life will be held for Beverly's family and friends at 1:00 pm on July 27th at the Fishkill United Methodist Church. For more information, online condolences, or memorial donations, please visit Beverly's Book of Memories at www.mchoulfuneralhome.com.

I remember how Mrs. Souers would always tell me to try to hit those high notes. I always have, and it's because of her. She had personality and was so passionate about her music. Her memory will always be with me. My condolences to her family.

I will remember all the wonderful times we spent together. Your spirit is free and now joined again with those that went on before.
There will be some amazing clam bakes when we all gather together.

Happy Mother's Day Mom. As an only child, rather than become self centered and unfamiliar with the hopes and needs of other people and the less fortunate, you gave your heart, soul and hard work to your family and everyone you met throughout your life. What an example you set for all of us.
