Caroline Daugavietis
Hyde Park - Caroline Daugavietis went home to be with the Lord on June 30th, with loved ones surrounding her at Vassar Brothers Hospital, Poughkeepsie, NY.
She was born in Bridgeport, CT on August 1st, 1942 to Franklin and Anna Roe. When she was young, the family moved to Poughkeepsie where she grew up with family.
One evening in 1960, she went bowling with a girlfriend and she caught the eye of a young man that turned out to be the love of her life, Vilnis (Doug) Daugavietis. They married in the fall of 1962. Together they raised four children, Daina Hart (Peter), Doug Daugavietis (Renell), Laura Smith (Todd) and Raymond Naile (Joy).
Carol and Doug's story is one of true and unwavering love. They married and then divorced, but their love could not be denied and the Lord brought them back together. The second time though, they really made sure it stuck! They dated for ten years, then were engaged for ten years, and then after another ten years they finally remarried April 22nd, 2007. They loved each other until Caroline went home to be with her Lord.
Her children were her pride and joy. The way she loved them, they all knew how important they were to her. When Daina was stationed in England, she once complained about their horrible corn on the cob. Carol decided Daina needed "the good stuff", so she went to a friend's house to get some fresh picked corn, packed it up, and Fed Ex'd it to England. Most expensive corn on the cob ever! When Doug was stationed in Germany, she would pack up a huge box of the Poughkeepsie Journal sports pages, and bags and bags of sunflower seeds. She joked that customs must have thought Doug had the biggest bird in Germany. There were many nights spent down back at Laura's house playing poker with midnight snacks. Laura cherished the many evenings that she sat around the fire pit with mommy telling crazy stories, laughing and solving the worlds problems. During these times mommy was a mountain of support for Laura. Guy always loved the time that as a family we all would go up to Lake Minerva, playing Skipbo late into the night.
And if you think she couldn't love anymore, then came along her grandkids. She had Emmett, Kenny, Brian Jr., Eriks, Aaron, Kyle, Rachel, Logan and Tyler. She was always their biggest supporter, fan, and cheerleader.
In January 1998, Carol joined the Hyde Park Baptist Church, she loved her church family very much. She often worked in the children's nursery and the kids loved her. The way the youth of the church ran up to her to give her a big hug always gave her so much joy. In addition to the nursery ministry, she also a part of the Do Drop ministry and managed the meal ministry.
Caroline had a way of always making those she cared about feel special and loved. She participated in the raising of many children, not just her own. You never doubted her love. She gave unconditional love to all she met. She was wonderful and touched so many lives. Her love is what she will be missed for the most.
She loved fishing, jigsaw puzzles, the New York Mets, Bingo, and Christmas.
