Dr. Charles Forte, III D.D.S.

ROCHESTER - Dr. Charles "Charlie" Forte, III D.D.S., 61, passed away suddenly on August 22, 2017 at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester, NY. He was born on March 15, 1956 in Sharon, CT., the son of Charles & Helen Foley Forte, II. Charlie was a graduate of Our Lady of Lourdes High School in 1974, SUNY Cortland in 1978, NYU Medical School in 1982 and completed a residency in General Practice Dentistry at the Eastman Dental Center in 1983.

He joined the Medical Staff at St. Mary's Hospital in 1984 and became Associate Chair of Dentistry at St. Mary's in 1985, continuing in that position as one of the founding members in the newly formed Unity Dental Group in 1998. Charlie was appointed to lead the Department in 2016 following the retirement of Dr. Peter LoFurno which is now known as The Rochester Regional Health Unity Dental Group in Penfield, NY. The Unity Dental Group is one of the largest Dental groups in Western New York State. He was proud of his work and co-workers. Charlie took immense pride in his work and his patients loved him.

Charlie was an avid golfer who enjoyed playing in golf tournaments with his friends. He was involved in Bible Study in his community.

Survivors include his mother: Helen Forte of Millbrook, NY; brother: Edward F.(Terri) Forte and their son, Spencer of Millbrook, NY & Groton, CT. There are aunts, uncles and cousins. He was predeceased by his father: Charles Forte, II in 1993.

Visitation will be Tuesday, August 29, 2017, 4-8 PM at the Wm. G. Miller & Son F.H., Inc., 371 Hooker Avenue, Poughkeepsie, NY 12603. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Wednesday, August 30, 2017 at 10AM in St. Joseph's Church, 15 North Avenue, Millbrook, NY 12545. Burial will be at convenience of the family. I first met Charlie 20 years ago. Charlie quickly became a member of our extended family. Christmas Eve dinner always included one of Charlie's holiday gourmet treats. His kindness was genuine and quick wit always spot-on. Rest in peace Charlie--you are missed.

when i got the news of his passing i thought there has to be a mistake, i cryed so so hard, know him for so many years, and he always took the time to hear me, not just medical but even when i had to vent out about upsetting things in my life, he was so gentle with me for he knew my fears of a dentist and the bad experience's i've had, where will i go now, i have a hard time trusting, he will surely be missed, the lord has a angel, the best.

Charlie was more than a friend to us, he was a part of our family. We were blessed to have him join us for Christmas Eve dinners for as far back as I can remember. We all enjoyed his quick wit and funny stories. Our girls will always have fond memories of "Charlie from the stone house" and "Charlie who brought delicious treats at Christmas".

The weekend before Charlie passed, he spent time with us. Playing golf with his dear friend and former colleague, John, and enjoying steamed clams by the water. He spent time at our campground and helped build a bonfire, roasted marshmallows and sipped a fine whiskey while talking dentistry and making plans for a continuing education trip. We will never forget him having breakfast with us, then playing with our new dog, and loving his name.....'Charlie'. We will forever cherish these memories.

Charlie was a wonderful and kind person, a caring friend and a dedicated dentist. We miss him. Rest in peace, dear friend.

No matter how busy, Charlie always stopped to talk to the girls. To say hello, and ask them how their day went. They loved saying hello, and peeking out the window to see if their neighbor was home. We really appreciated the times he took pity on us, as I attempted to shovel the driveway, as two young Girls shoveled the snow back into the driveway ;-), then when we were inside and not looking he would bring his snowblower over to clear our driveway. I and all my family had Dr. Forte as our dentist...at Unity Dental...for, oh so many years! Maybe 20 or more years. I think I may have one of the last teeth he worked on, as I had a cavity filled the afternoon of the day he passed away. I remarked to my husband how blessed we were to have such a skilled dentist. He always respected my alternative views to standard dental care and found a way to work with me. I will remember him fondly. He passed away 'at the top of his game'...my sympathy to his family, his friends and his co-workers. His shoes will be difficult to fill.

I too was a patient of Dr. Forte since his days at St. Mary's. It was never a question to follow him to the Penfield office. He was a skilled and kind professional. I consider him and the Unity team he chose to support him friends. We would chat about golf and he was always thankful for the LPGA passes I sent his way. My thoughts, prayers and condolences got out to his family and coworkers. He will be missed.
