Christopher Conroy Obituary
Red Hook - Christopher G. "Chris" Conroy, 23, died May 11, 2014 in Kingston.
Son of Kevin and Linda Conroy, he was born in Vermont and frolicked his early years on their goat farm there. Chris cherished his Green Mountain roots and returned as often as he could.
He graduated from Dutchess Community College in 2010 and Bennington College in 2012, with a focus in literature and media. He worked as a freelance writer and was pursuing an MA in English from SUNY New Paltz where he was a Teacher Assistant.
Chris was an insightful writer, rapacious reader and student of literature. He held a particular passion for twentieth-century and contemporary American literature, criticism and language. He was deeply enthusiastic about home brewing beer, cooking, playing guitar, studying and listening to blues and jazz. He had recently taken up cycling and was an avid minimalist runner - putting in many miles with his devoted canine companion, Ula. A self-confessed maple syrup addict, he possessed a developed palate and found deep delight in meals with family and his forever love, Ana. Some of the fondest times of his life were spent sharing simple pleasures with her, whether on culinary adventures, road-tripping or sipping coffee by firelight. Chris enjoyed being big cousin to his younger cousins as much as they enjoyed his antics.
His thoughtful presence, quick and wry wit and searing intensity will be missed by all who loved him. Even those who knew him briefly were captivated by his soulful eyes.
Chris is survived by his proud parents, his loving maternal and paternal grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins. He is also survived by his Soul Brother Joe and was predeceased by his brother-in-spirit, Nick.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10:30 AM on Wednesday, May 14, 2014 at St. Christopher's Church in Red Hook. Cremation will be private at Wiltwyck Crematory, Kingston.
Friends may call at the Burnett & White Funeral Homes on Tuesday from 7 - 9 PM.
Memorial donations may be made in Christopher's memory to Bennington College, "In memory of Chris Conroy", Attn; Ellen Janis, Office of External Relations, 1 College Drive, Bennington, VT 05201.

Linda you did everything that you could for your son and I am sure that Chris was grateful to you for all of your love and support every single day. My deepest condolences regarding Chris's passing. I did not have the pleasure of knowing him, but it sounds like he lived well and loved even more. God willing we can all say that of our lives when our time arrives.

There are times we face challenges that far transcend the daily ebb and flow of usual daily activity. Chris's passing is one such event. I regret, as his Grand Uncle, that I did not have the opportunity to sit and listen to his dreams.
