Dr. Peter Joseph Conroy II

Dr. Peter Joseph Conroy II, P.E., PhD, 90; born July 30, 1935, to the late Peter and Winifred, nee Heneghan, Conroy. A first generation American from Irish immigrants, he grew up with his three brothers on the West side of Chicago. A graduate of Our Lady of the Angels and St. Mel High School, he earned a geology degree from Saint Joseph College and a Master of Science and PhD degree in Geological Engineering from the University of Missouri-Rolla. He was married to the late Jeanine, nee Branick for 63 years. He was a lifelong learner and hobbyist who accomplished much in his lifetime. He traveled all over the world for his job and for pleasure. He earned his pilot license and flew his Cessna airplane to Alaska. He earned a scuba diver certificate, restored a Model A Ford automobile, made wine, and built a grandfather clock. He also researched and put together a book that includes the Conroy family genealogy. He learned to play the bagpipes and became the pipe major for the Chicago Shannon Rovers Irish Pipe Band. As a member of the band, he played for numerous weddings, funerals, dignitaries and parades. He also taught many students to play the bagpipes. A loving father and Papa, he will be dearly missed by his children Peter III (LuAnn), Mary (Dale) Showers, Anne (Bob) Peachey, his grandchildren Megan, Peter IV (Monica), Daniel (Lauren) Showers, Kate (Matthew) Byrd, Robert (Michelle) Peachey, James (Erin) Peachey and Colleen Peachey; and his great grandchildren Alec, Shane, Peter V "Finn", Cal, Iyla, Maryn, Della, Henry, Margaret, Logan, Lily, Reese, Fiona and Maura. Peter was also a dear brother of Michael (Eileen) and William (Teresa) and the late Patrick. Visitation Monday, January 26, 2026, 3:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and Tuesday, January 27, 2026, 8:00 a.m. until time of prayers 9:00 am. at Gibbons Funeral Home, 134 South York Road, (½ mile North of Saint Charles Road), Elmhurst. Mass of Christian Burial 9:30 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 134 Arthur Street, Elmhurst. Interment Queen of Heaven Catholic Cemetery, Hillside. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Immaculate Conception College Prep, 217 Cottage Hill Avenue, Elmhurst, IL 60126.
