Christopher Lawrence McLaurin

Christopher Lawrence McLaurin, entered into eternal rest on March 15, 2021 at home surrounded by his loving family. He was 63 years old.

Christopher McLaurin was born on November 15, 1957 in Brooklyn, NY to James and Mildred McLaurin. He is survived by his brother, James McLaurin. Chris McLaurin was educated in the New York City Public School System where he attended P.S. 316 and Boy's High. He settled in Poughkeepsie NY where he attended Dutchess Community College 1975-1977. In 1983 he married his soul mate and best friend, Sonya McLaurin.

Christopher McLaurin's life mission was to make an impact starting with the youth as it is exemplified through his stellar resume and life experiences. Christopher has always been in constant contact with youth through his employment at DFY Harlem Valley and Highland, St. Cabrini, Mental Health of America, Holy Cross, Security at Poughkeepsie High School, Crisis Intervention Manager at PACE School, Youth Program manager at the Newburgh Armory, PHS Varsity Assistant Coach and Freshman Basketball Team Head Coach, FDR JV Head Coach, coach of various AAU Teams and to so many other individuals within the Poughkeepsie, Newburgh and Hyde Park school system. He was also a member of the Holy Light Pentecostal Church.

Christopher McLaurin was survived by his loving wife, Sonya McLaurin, His three wonderful children Chloe, Iman, Elijah (Jessica), his two beautiful grandchildren, Jeremiah and Johle, his beautiful mother, Mildred McLaurin, younger brother, James McLaurin (Dolores) and three nephews Maurice Jackson, James McLaurin (Joslyn), Lamar McLaurin (Desiree).

Christopher was predeceased by his father James Richard McLaurin,1974.

Mr. McLaurin will have a Walk Through 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 Noon, Monday, March 22, 2021 at Rhodes Funeral Home Chapel, 43 Fairview Ave., Poughkeepsie, NY. (Face Mask and Social Distancing REQUIRED). Elijah, and the rest of the McLaurin family,
I'm so sorry to hear of Chris' passing. I had countless chats with Chris, when we both worked at PHS, about sports (especially basketball), and kids. I still remember watching Chris "Scorin" McLaurin, and his side-kick Stan "the Man" Murdoch when they starred for the DCC basketball team back in the mid 1970's. The world has lost a truly good person. Please accept my condolences.
