Darrell Bennett Obituary
WINGDALE - Darrell John Bennett, 29, a lifelong resident of Wingdale, NY, died on Monday, February 20, 2012 at Griffin Hospital in Derby, CT. Darrell was a head cook at Cousin's Pizza in Wingdale, NY for 10 years.
Born on September 2, 1982 in Danbury, CT, he was the son of John Bennett of Wingdale, NY and Julie Germond of Seymour, CT. He was a Class of 2000 graduate of Dover High School in Dover Plains, NY.
Besides his parents, Darrell is survived by his stepmother, Jane Bennett of Wingdale, NY, two brothers, Ryan Bennett of Shelton, CT and Tyler Macken of Dover Plains, NY; four sisters, Brianna Germond of Oxford, CT, Sage Wootton of Seymour, CT, Christine Zimlinghaus of Dover Plains, NY and Karen DeTray of Columbus, OH. He is also survived by his maternal grandparents, Frederick and Bonnie Germond of Victor, MT and his paternal grandmother, Jeanette Bennett of Dover Plains, NY, several aunts, uncles and cousins and his special friends, Eric, Ruth, Christopher and Kyle Hebden of Wingdale, NY. Darrell was predeceased by his paternal grandfather, John Bennett.
Calling hours will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. on Friday, February 24, 2012 at the Hufcut Funeral Home, 3159 Route 22, Dover Plains, NY. Funeral services will follow at 8 p.m. at the funeral home with Pastor Daniel Groh officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis TN 38105. In reading all the comments Darrell turned out to be a great young man that was loved by many. I'm not surprised as he was a loving and good hearted child. Darrell we will miss you.

I will never forget all the advice Darrell gave to me when I was younger. He practiced soccer with me all the time, and was always there when needed. I will truly miss his smiling face when I walk into cousins. Thoughts go out to his family. I will never forget that smile of his. <3

Darrel this is the hardest thing i have had to do is say goodbye to someone so young,sweet, funny, kind,respectful.A smile that would brighten up anyones day.You hung out with my boys Alan and Matt for many years and were 1 of the kids that was a joy to have come over anytime. Darrell most definitely had a smile on his face – always! Though we haven't spent time together since high school, every time I would see him around, he was always interested in how we were all doing. He was really a great person, and he had a big heart!

Thoughts of Darrell Bennett have been so heavy on my heart and mind. You will be missed by the Hebden family immensely. When you moved in with Eric several months ago I know you felt that it was all him helping you out, how wrong you were. The love, help, support, and companionship that you brought into their home will be forever appreciated. Eric fell completely apart when telling Ruthie about your passing. It was obvious that they loved you like a son. I did not know you very long or well, although every time I saw you with Ruthie your tenderness warmed my heart. Your help in putting up the Hebden's Christmas tree with me this past year (with a chain saw inside the house and all) is a memory that I will treasure forever. Your visit to see Ruthie just a few weeks ago, you helping her to get ready for that wonderful outside family visit on that pretty winter day... Just watching you help put her jacket & scarf on, and pushing her wheelchair... All I could think was, what an amazing gentleman you were. Darrell, even with that smile and that laugh and those jokes, you were always someone I knew could get real - who could pick my brain, talk sports, try to figure out women.... Played soccer with Darrell as kids growing up and still saw him from time to time around town. I didn't know him that well but he always made a point to say hello and ask how I was doing whenever he saw me. Darrell was the type of person who would ask how you are and seemed to care what your response was.

We are inconsolable at this loss. Darrell was joyful, sweet, generous and funny. He was my grandson's Godfather, one of my son's best friends. I used to bake him cream puffs and cookies. He always greeted us with a huge smile. Darrell was so loved by all of us, and it is just heartbreaking and impossible to believe that he is gone. He will remain in our hearts forever and we will never let Noah forget that he had the most wonderful Godfather any little boy could be blessed with.
