Poughkeepsie - On May 24, 2017 Darryl "D" Rogers, 54, of Poughkeepsie, NY entered into eternal rest at Vassar Brothers Medical Center. He was born June 17, 1962, to the late Flora Mae Rogers-Sanders and Curtis Williams of Columbus Georgia.

In 1979 at the age of 14, Darryl moved to Poughkeepsie residing with his eldest sister, Betty, who raised him as one of her own. He was educated in the Poughkeepsie city school district.

Darryl was employed at Hudson River Psychiatric Center for several years, before moving on to EFCO bakery, where he retired in 2015 with over 30 years of service.

Darryl was a quiet, easy going man. Not only was he kind and generous, but had the respect of all who knew him. He was known to keep a smile on his face, rarely allowing life to weigh him down; he took the good with the bad, never dwelling on the negative.

He was an avid sports lover of basketball and football (a die-hard NY Giants fan). Whenever there was a basketball game (especially the Warriors) you could catch him and his wife, each with a bowl of ice cream, cheering their team on.

Darryl is survived by his devoted wife, Grendal, who remained by his side to the very end; other survivors include his sons, Darryl Jr. and Avery of Poughkeepsie; step-daughters, Tamika Ross, of Poughkeepsie; Princess Ross of Albany, NY; and Keishon Williams of Columbia, SC; 6 sisters, Betty (Campbell) Atkins, of Poughkeepsie; Ruby Jean Diaz, Lucille (Jesse) Armour, Cynthia Taylor, and Brenda (Christopher) Baker, all of Columbus, GA, and Sharon Pierce of Phoenix City, AL; 5 brothers, Artis Rogers of Gary IN; Otis (Patricia) Rogers and Dexter Rogers, all of Columbus, GA; Darryle (Ze-Ester) Williams of Conyers, GA; and Tyrone (Tracy) Williams of Hammond, LA. He leaves behind 9 grandchildren, several nieces, nephews, and a host of relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Flora Mae; sister, Janice Brown; and brother, Ronnie Rogers.
