David Barney Obituary

David George

Barney Sr.

MILLERTON - David George Barney Sr., 69, born November 18, 1942 went to heaven peacefully Tuesday, January 17.

Raised in Darien by his beloved parents, Frederick and Harriet, David left Connecticut to serve in the United States Navy on an aircraft carrier and sailed around the world, after which he settled in this area. He loved to take walks through the woods, go fishing, and play golf. He was a former member of the Sharon Masonic Lodge and a volunteer for the Millerton Fire Department. He played pedal steel guitar with a local country band for many years, until he discovered bluegrass. Dave loved to play bluegrass music with his many friends. An incredible musician, he played bluegrass banjo, guitar and mandolin. Everybody who knew David loved him. He will be greatly missed. "May His Memory Be Eternal!"

He is survived by his wife Linda Kattuah, his children Tammy Cooper and her husband Rob, Carrie Olsen and her husband Chad, David Jr. and his wife Heather, Brian, and youngest son Joseph Barney, twelve grandchildren and two great grandchildren. He is pre-deceased by his son Michael, and by his father Frederick. He is survived by his mother Harriet, his brother Alan F. Barney, his wife Carol and their children, and his brother Carl H. Barney and his wife Anita.

A celebration of his life will begin with visitation at the Kenny Funeral Home, 41 Main St., Sharon, Ct., Friday, January 20 from 4-7pm. On Saturday, January 21, a service will be held at the Sharon Congregation Church from 10:00 - 11:00, and a potluck luncheon will follow at the Sharon American Legion Hall. In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to Geer Memorial.

Linda, One of the highlights when coming up to the "the lake house" was seeing Dave high on the top of his tractor driving down the road. I enjoyed talking to him. It seemed to me he new everything about everything. He was a great help when the house was under construction. He will be missed and not forgotten
Sincerely, Ed and Kathy

Brian and Family,

Dave was such a wonderful man. He had so much patience for everyone and was such a gifted musician. I have SO MANY awesome childhood memories and most of them revolve around the Barney Family. I lost track of Dave over the years, but I can see him in my mind crystal clear with that amazing smile and kind eyes. It is my hope that you will all be comforted with those same warm memories.

Brian so sorry for your loss, he sounds like a wonderful man. Much love my friend.

I can see Dave very clearly in my "mind's eye" (I was Diane Bradley then) walking up Main St. in Millerton when we were in our teen years. We were all heading to "Strong"s Drug Store" (later Dick Weinstein's) for our after school treats, ie Coke, ice cream soda, or whatever. We all know Dave will be missed by all his friends and mostly by his family. Your devotion to your dad is exemplary, Tammy. He will be forever in your mind and heart. Continue to smile as he did. We send hugs and hope you will be comforted by family and friends. Much love - John and Diane Walters

I was so shocked to see that Dave had passed away. But I live in Tennessee now and don't get much news. We worked together on the Town Highway for over 10 years. Dave was the most likable guy I ever met. I am sure he will be deeply missed. Our prayers go out to his entire family. I am sure Dave will be a pick'in and a grin'in in heaven. May you rest in peace old friend.
