Dwight Townsend Obituary

Dwight M.

Townsend

WAPPINGERS FALLS - Dwight M. Townsend, 69, a longtime resident of Wappingers Falls, died peacefully in his sleep on June 23, 2011.

Dwight was born November 3, 1941 at Vassar Bros. Hospital to the late Elbert and Helen Clark Townsend.

On April 16, 1966 he married the love of his life, Mary A. Husted. He was a loving and caring husband, father and PopPop. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughter Jill Sitler and her husband Brian, his son David Townsend and his wife Debbie, and the pride and joy of his life, his grandchildren Erica and Jason Sitler, and Breanne and James Townsend, several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his brothers Clark and Robert Townsend.

Dwight graduated from Wappingers Central School District in 1959. He was proud to be a member of the 1959 DCSL Championship Basketball team. He attended Dutchess Community College and after graduation began a career in accounting. He was an accountant with Robert G. Shepheard CPA P.C. in Poughkeepsie.

Dwight was a lifetime active member of the New Hamburg Yacht Club. He served many years on the Thomas D. Macrini Sports Hall of Fame Committee for the Wappingers Central School District. Dwight played basketball, softball, running and most recently enjoyed biking on the rail trail, going to the gym and Friday night "tea time". He loved being with his family and friends and was fondly known as "Hound Dog". He never missed an opportunity to brag about his grandchildren and spent many a weekend going to their sports events. He loved life, a good party, especially Thanksgiving with family and whoever else showed up. He will be greatly missed by ALL.

Friends may call at the Delehanty Funeral Home 64 E. Main St., Wappingers Falls, Monday from 4 to 8 PM.

Funeral services will be Tuesday at 11:00 AM at the New Hackensack Reformed Church, Route 376, Wappingers Falls. Rev. Keith Tamyln will officiate. Entombment will be at the convenience of the family.

Dear Mary & family,

I am so sorry for the loss of such a good man. On the two occasions Dwight and you opened your home to our family, you made us feel like we were part of your family. My dad had a lifetime friend and we all know how much they meant to each other. I will always appreciate all he has done for us and will remember him always. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.

Dear Mary & Family, A great loss. I only knew Dwight a few years, working with him. I would describe to my friends that, "he was like a great big Teddy Bear." He always shared his cooking recipes. Many people touch our lives, he will be one who I will always remember. May you find peace & comfort in all the beautiful memories.
