Earl V. Anderson

Beacon - Earl V. Anderson, a lifelong resident of Beacon, entered into rest Tuesday, March 10, 2015 at his home. He was 84.

Son of the late Alton and Lillian Cable Anderson, he was born March 18, 1930 in Beacon. On August 19, 1951, Earl married the former Anne H. Parker at the Presbyterian Church in Beacon. Mrs. Anderson survives at home. Earl graduated from Beacon High School and Clarkson College of Technology (now Clarkson University) with a degree in Chemical Engineering. Earl served in the United States Army during the Korean War where he commanded a company of combat engineers in the 24th Infantry Division. His citations include the Bronze Star, Korean Service Medal with two campaign stars, a unit citation and Japan Occupation Medal. Earl worked at Texaco Research Center for short periods of time between high school, college and the military. He then worked for Chemical & Engineering News Magazine for 37 years. He was one of their first two senior correspondents. He worked in the Houston office covering the Gulf Coast petrochemical industry and then transferred to the New York City office specializing in international trade affairs, especially most of the world trade negotiations and their impact on the chemical industry. He also covered the chemical industries in Canada, Mexico, South America and Japan.

Earl was a member of the American Chemical Society, The American Institute of Chemical Engineers, the Chemical Industry Association, New York City Chemical Marketing and Economics Group, the Chemists' Club of New York, the Houston Press Club and the Overseas Press Club of New York. Earl was also a member of the Beacon Volunteer Ambulance Corps, Beacon Engine Company No. 1, Beacon Elks Club, Beacon Lodge of Masons and three chapters of Order of the Eastern Star and a member of St. Luke's Episcopal Church.

In addition to his wife, Anne, he is survived by his children, Mary Ruger, Jude Pendleton and her husband, Norman, Robert Anderson and his wife, Kathy and Donald Anderson and his wife, Blanche; his eighteen grandchildren and fifteen great grandchildren; his brothers-in-law, John Parker and his wife, Vilma and Thomas Parker and his wife, Nancy; several nieces and nephews.

Earl was predeceased by his son-in-law, George Ruger.

The family will receive their friends on Friday, March 13, 2015 from 4 to 8 p.m. at Halvey Funeral Home, Inc., 24 Willow Street, Beacon. Members of the Eastern Star will hold services at 7 p.m. at the funeral home.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 14 at St. Luke's Episcopal Church, 544 Wolcott Avenue, Beacon. Interment with military honors will follow at Fairview Cemetery, 375 Washington Avenue, Beacon.

Memorial donations in memory of Earl may be made to St. Luke's Episcopal Church, 544 Wolcott Avenue, Beacon, New York 12508 or to the Shriners Hospitals for Children, 2900 Rocky Point Drive, Tampa, FL 33607.

Anne,

Annie, Mary, Judy, Bobby, Donny and family, We are so very sad to learn of Earl's passing. He fought a long hard battle, but always with a smile.
