POUGHKEEPSIE - Edward J. Filipowicz, 86, of the City of Poughkeepsie passed away Friday February 17, 2012 at home.

Born in the City of Poughkeepsie in 1926, he was the son of John & Stephanie Filipowicz. He graduated from St. Joseph's Parochial School and Poughkeepsie High School in 1944. He then served in the U.S. Naval Air Corp. from July 1944 to July 1946 during W.W. II. He attended Vassar College as a W.W. II Veteran and Edward J. Filipowicz, 86, of the City of Poughkeepsie, passed away Friday February, 17, later graduated from New York Law School with a Juris Doctorate. He was married for 50 years to Jean Ann Miller. He and his wife had three children who survive: John Filipowicz, Esq. and his wife Bonnie of Yardley, Pa.; Ann Blotner and her husband Richard of West Bloomfield, MI. and Jane and her husband, Lt.Col. Greg Kropkowski of Colorado Springs, Co. There is a sister Trudy Snyder, a retired registered nurse, of Spring Hill, Fla. and six Grandchildren. He was pre-deceased by his wife and 2 brothers: Lt. Commander Frank Filipowicz, USN and Lt. Col. John Filipowicz, USA. A brother-in-law: Robert Snyder pre-deceased him.

During his legal career he served as City of Poughkeepsie Court Judge for eight years and as Assistant Dutchess county Court Attorney for eight years. He was also a First Assistant County Attorney. He was very active with the City of Poughkeepsie Republican Party. He Served as a past Chairman. He served in many capacities with The Dutchess County Republican Party. They include: Dutchess County Republican Executive Committee and as a Delegate to the Ninth Judicial Convention on many occasions. He was a member of the Dutchess County Bar Association, The Amrita Club, Polish-American citizen's Club, Honorary Member of the Poughkeepsie Tennis Club for over 50 years, Member of American Legion for over 50 years and a Life Member of St. Joseph's Church in Poughkeepsie. He was a loving husband and father who enjoyed traveling and spending time with his family, especially watching his grandchildren participate in activities. There will be a private interment service at the convenience of the family. I just heard of your loss this afternoon, and wish to express my condolences to you and yours. I've spoken to Uncle Ed a few times over the past few years, and it was most enjoyable. I'm thinking of you all during this most difficult time.
