Edwin Cappillino Obituary

Edwin J. (Red) Cappillino

Hyde Park - Edwin J. '"Red" Cappillino, born on January 21, 1944, went to be with his Heavenly Father on April 13, 2021. The son of Edward and Mary Cappillino from Highland, NY.

He was a graduate of Highland High School. His quick wit and hysterical sense of humor will always be remembered by all who knew and loved him - truly "the life of the party." In the worst of situations, he could find something to make us laugh at. He kept everyone laughing reminding them about his high school football moments, having a touchdown on offense, defense, and special teams in just one football game.

A Vietnam Veteran, he served in the Navy, where he was a member of the 'Seabees.' He returned state side after his service and married his loving wife, Tina Sammarco on July 17, 1971, 49 years ago. They met at her fathers' restaurant, Three Caballeros and settled in Hyde Park with their two children, Dana, and Christy.

His lifelong career as an electrician with the IBEW, Local # 363, would be followed in later years with a feverish passion for golf! He has been known for celebrating 4 "Holes in One!" An avid golfer, he played in the rain, snow, and the most turbulent weather to perfect his craft!

Red was the biggest New York sports fan and would NEVER be seen in public without his Yankees or Giants hat.

Other interests throughout his life included song writing, big band music and even promoting musicians in his younger days. Many did not know he was a talented artist as-well, creating beautiful paintings and drawings.

Red was hardworking, loyal, and dedicated to his family and wife, Tina. He was especially proud of his 3 grandchildren, Darby, a prominent song writer and singer. Andy, a football player with great potential and a fun sense of humor. Red lived vicariously through Christian, who excelled in football accolades and is currently pursuing his pilot's license. Red mentored him as they bonded over sports and aviation. Red meant a lot to many. He was authentic, one of a kind. There will be a void without him. He will be truly missed.

He is survived by his wife, Tina and their children Dana and Christy Cappillino, daughter-in-law Leigh, grandchildren, Christian, Darby and Andy, brothers Ron in Bradenton, FL, John in Highland NY, sister Marian Cappillino, New Paltz; brother-in-law, Val Sammarco; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Bill and Donna Krepick; and many cousins and nieces and nephews include Angelo, Michael, Gina, Jason, Renee, Sherry, Lori and Mike.

He is predeceased by his parents, Edward and Mary, sister Rita, brother Bobby and sister-in law Joan.

Thank you to Pastor Wayne & Maryanne Berry and family of John 3:16 for their many prayers and support during this difficult time. Thank you to everyone for your thoughts and prayers.

I was so sorry to hear of Red's passing. We played football together and were in the same graduating class at Highland High. Red was a fine athlete and it was a pleasure to play alongside him on the field. My prayers to the family.

I remember "Red" from my youth days in Highland. Most memories revolved around our spring and summer pick up baseball games at the field behind the "old" Highland High School. He was a sports oriented guy and one of the better baseball players in the group.
Condolences to his family.
