Ubionvale - Ellen Ruth Wachenheimer, 91, a long time Verbank, NY resident passed away on July 30, 2015 at the Mid-Hudson Regional Medical Center. Ellen was born on March 16, 1924 in Meiningen, Germany, the daughter of Eugene & Charlotte Hyman Roer.
After surviving Nazi persecution, she and her family came to America in 1940 and worked tirelessly to push forward. In 1959 she married her husband, Edmund Wachenheimer and helped him operate the Wachenheimer Farm in Verbank, NY. He predeceased her on July 16, 1996. A loving mother and homemaker who enjoyed traveling with her family, cooking, baking and being the life of the party.
Survivors include her sons: Donald Wachenheimer of Verbank, NY; Steven (Carol) Wachenheimer of Lagrangeville, NY and Several Nieces and Nephews. She was predeceased by her brother: Harry Roer and sister: Ursula Iskols. Graveside services will be held Sunday, August 2, 2015, at 1 PM in Temple Beth-El Cemetery, Rt. 44, Poughkeepsie, NY 12603. Memorial Donations may be made to: Unionvale Rescue Squad.

Dear Donald and Steven -
My heartfelt condolences for the loss of your dear mother. She her parents, and her brother and sister were concerned neighbors and friends to me as a young boy in Queens when my mother was hospitalized for 5 years. Their presence and wonderful sense of humor were an important part of my life back then.
I shall remember them and both of you in my prayers.
