POUGHKEEPSIE - Emmy S. Muckenhoupt, a resident of the City of Poughkeepsie, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 1, 2014 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center, at the age of 90.

Born in Wheeling, West Virginia on September 29, 1923, she was the daughter of the late John F. Salzman and Kathrena Toth Salzman.

Emmy lived in Manhattan prior to moving to Poughkeepsie, New York. She graduated from Julia Richman High School and attended Hunter College. She was employed as a buyer for Macy's.

On February 14, 1953, Emmy married Franklin A. Muckenhoupt, with whom she spent 42 years. They raised their family in Poughkeepsie, New York. Franklin predeceased her on November 6, 1995.

Emmy was a member of St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church, Poughkeepsie, New York. She was involved in several religious and civic organizations.

Emmy is survived by her son, Kenneth J. Muckenhaupt and his wife, Judith of Poughkeepsie, New York; her son Rev. Gregory F. Muckenhaupt, SJ of Palau, Micronesia; and her daughter, Rena M. O'Connor and her husband, Michael of Poughkeepsie, New York; grandchildren, Sara Muckenhaupt, Lydia O'Connor and Evan O'Connor; and several nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be Monday, April 7, 2014 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Parmele, Auchmoody & Schoonmaker Funeral Home, 110 Fulton Avenue, Poughkeepsie, New York.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, April 8, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church, at South Hamilton and Church Streets, Poughkeepsie, New York, followed by burial at Poughkeepsie Rural Cemetery.
