Francis J. Cornell

RHINEBECK - Francis J. Cornell, 87, of Rhinebeck, NY, passed away on August 7, 2014 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center in Poughkeepsie, NY. He was born in Smithtown, NY on January 30, 1927, the son of Harvey & Mary Ellen Quinn Cornell. Francis married Carmella Feiore on June 6, 1948 in St. Mary's Church in Poughkeepsie, NY. She survives at home. He owned Francis J. Cornell Builders in Rhinebeck, NY and retired in 1982. He was a W.W. II U.S. Army Veteran and served in the Army of the Occupation in Japan. He enjoyed playing golf and tennis in his retirement. Survivors include his sons: Peter, John, Daniel, Thomas Cornel l and a sister: Mary Ellen Brunner. There are 27 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by a daughter: Kathryn Stearns. There are no calling hours. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, August 13, 2014, at 10 AM in Holy Trinity Church, 775 Main St., Poughkeepsie, NY 12603. Inurnment will follow in the Mausoleum at St. Peter's Cemetery with Military Honors. Arrangements are under the direction of Wm. G. Miller & Son F.H., Inc., 371 Hooker Avenue, Poughkeepsie, NY 12603. In 1962 I was given a job by Frank to work with him as he contracted to build homes around the Poughkeepsie new York area.. He was "tops" in his field and I found him to be someone whose word was his bond. He took the time to teach me some of his trade. He was (not only a boss) but a mentor and friend. RIP Frank ....
