Frank Spadaro

Glendale, AZ - Frank Spadaro of Glendale, Arizona passed away suddenly on August 20th 2014. He was 88. Frank was born at home on Dutchess Avenue in Poughkeepsie, New York on September 23, 1925 to Carmelo and Angelina (Palumbo) Spadaro. The family moved back to Italy for a short time where Frank enjoyed living in the Italian countryside. They re-immigrated back to the United States in 1936. Frank attended Mount Carmel and Poughkeepsie high school. Frank left school to enlist in the Navy when he was 17 years old. While in the Navy he was assigned to the USS Birmingham and then the USS Lofberg, Frank saw intensive action in the Pacific theater. Returning home after the war Frank married his high school sweetheart Carmela Aloy. Frank played softball and baseball for many years in the local Poughkeepsie leagues. Frank loved to bowl and play golf as well as being an avid Yankee supporter. He was a great fan of Joe 'D'. Frank worked at Western Printing in Poughkeepsie for 35 years before moving to Glendale where he started his started his second career working at the Wigwam Golf Resort for 25 years, retiring at 86.

Frank is survived by his wife of 64 years Carmela, his son Frank and wife Linda of Myrtle Beach, SC, daughter Francesca Courtney and husband George of Glendale, AZ, son Randy of Lake Katrine, NY, daughter Carla Guerico and husband Phillip and son Andrew of Hyde Park, NY. His sister Jenny Barbragallo and brother Vincent and wife Kathy of Highland, NY also survive him; 11 grandchildren and 5 great children are also survived by Frank, as well as many nieces and nephews.

Cremation has already taken place and a Memorial Service with full military honors will be conducted at the Veterans Cemetery in Phoenix, AZ at a time to be determined. This gentle, sweet and unassuming man will always be in our thoughts and hearts and will be greatly missed.
