Janet Nieri Obituary
LaGrange - Janet Nieri, 74, a long-time resident of LaGrange, N.Y., died Tuesday, December 8th at MidHudson Regional Hospital in Poughkeepsie, N.Y.
Born in Great Barrington, Mass., on July 7, 1946 to John T. Dunn and Sheila Mary Fitzsimons, Janet attended Searles High School in the Berkshire Hills of western Massachusetts.
To fulfill her desire to help others, she went on to nursing school in Boston. After graduation in 1969, she moved to New York to start a job as a Registered Nurse at Vassar Brothers Hospital in Poughkeepsie, the town where she'd later meet her husband Robert Nieri. They married on May 20, 1978.
Janet had a long and rewarding career of service at the hospital, and her invaluable contributions to the well-being of patients and nursing teams will not be forgotten. She began as an IV Team nurse and worked most of her years as a night-shift nurse in the Emergency Room. She also spent several years working in the Cardiothoracic unit. Her last stop was Radiology before her retirement in 2008.
Janet is survived by her husband Bob; daughter Sheila and husband Brendan Darrow of Lagrangeville, N.Y.; son Matthew and wife Kathryn Nieri of Meridian, Idaho; brother Anthony Dunn of North Canaan, Conn.; and three grandchildren: Ryan and Leah Darrow and new granddaughter Mila Rose Nieri.
Her grandchildren brought more joy to Janet than anyone could have imagined. She and Bob made it to every dance recital, baseball and basketball game possible and loved watching and cheering. She treasured annual family vacations to the Jersey Shore. She had a gift for making people smile and personality that could draw a crowd.
Due to the current situation regarding the pandemic a service will be postponed for a later date. In her memory, donations may be made to Dutchess Outreach Inc, in Poughkeepsie, NY to represent her wishes for helping those in need.

Janet was such a wonderful person. She never judged and always had a smile and a kind word for those around her. I am going to miss speaking with her in the grocery store. My prayers for Bob, Sheila, Matthew and their loved ones. I am truly going to miss her.

I was just thinking about Janet a couple of weeks ago. I’m so sad to see this news. I knew Janet from VBMC. What a wonderful person!! Always a smile, to go with her sweet heart. Sincere condolences to the family. Janet will be missed for a long time to come.

I knew Janet when I worked at VBMC. What a lovely person and an excellent nurse. She always had a smile on her face. After she retired, I would see her at the grocery store and we would chat and catch up. My condolences to the entire family, Janet was truly a wonderful person.
