I have been trying to reach your dad via the last e-mail address I had. I finally decided to try to find one of his children and found this. I am heart broken, as I know you all are. Joel was a character! I loved him! I worked with him at IBM instruments years ago and visited He and Traudl in Germany many years ago and we had a blast. Your Dad had the greatest sense of humor and was so smart and practical. I looked forward to every encounter with him and every e-mail from him. Though I am in Florida and he was in Germany and lately much time passed between conversations he will always be one of the brightest stars in memories of my life. I am so sorry. I know he will be sorely missed.

Dear Family ,

The Ciancanelli 's and Izzo 's were neighbors and friends. I was saddened to learn about Joel's death. My memories will always be near and dear to me . He and Gene were like our "brothers." His , mother , Margaret , was a second Mom to us .
My thoughts and prayers are with you.

I am so sorry for your great loss. May the God who "binds up the brokenhearted" and "comforts all who mourn" sustain your family during this challenging time. (Isaiah 61:1,2) With heartfelt sympathy.
