John Hannan Obituary

John Hannan, Jr.

Wingdale, NY - John E. Hannan, Jr., 58, of Ghent, NY, formerly a longtime resident of Wingdale, NY died unexpectedly on Thursday, April 11, 2013 at the Columbia Memorial Hospital in Hudson, NY. John worked as a Registered Nurse at the Harlem Valley Psychiatric Center in Wingdale, NY and later worked at Green Haven Correctional Facility with 38 years of state service, retiring in 2010.

Born on November 10, 1954 in Sharon, CT, he was the son of the late John E. Hannan, Sr. and Sylvia Caple. John received his Registered Nurse degree from Dutchess Community College and attended SUNY New Paltz. He was a member of the National Hot Rod Association, Sierra Club and was also the former superintendent of the South Dover Rural Cemetery in Wingdale, NY.

John was a kind heart, caring for all in need and an advocate for those who could not speak for themselves. He placed his family first, dedicated to those he loved. People close to John enjoyed his wonderful sense of humor and his passion for the outdoors. We will miss his wit, wonderful conversations and his loving devotions. He loved to travel, most recently to visit Tony and going to the Grand Canyon and Winter Nationals in Arizona. John leaves behind a measurable void in the Universe.

He is survived by his loving wife, Karen Consolato of Ghent, NY; three children, Tina Hannan of Hawley, PA, Anthony Consolato of Mesa, AZ and Jennifer Lanza of Cornwall Bridge, CT and his siblings, Cynthia Hannan and Keith Hannan both of Florida. In addition to his parents, John was predeceased by a sister, Laurel H. Hannan; a brother, James Hannan, and his best friend Holly.

Dear Karen & Family, My family & I grew up with John in the same neighborhood. I also had the priviledge to see what a kind & caring person he was at work. It was an honor to know him even for a little while. So very sorry for your loss. You are in my prayers. Sincerely, Lynne Haley
