John Tice Obituary
Pleasant Valley - John Edward Tice, Jr., 82, of Pleasant Valley, passed away peacefully on February 25, 2018 at Mid-Hudson Regional Hospital in Poughkeepsie.
He was born on January 31, 1936 in Brooklyn to the late John Edward and Else Held Tice.
He attended Wagner College earning his BA, Queens College earning his MSED, the State University of New York, College at New Paltz earning his C.A.S and Walden University earning his PhD in Philosophy. Education and knowledge were his passion. He was an avid reader and very proud of his library at Indian Lake. John cherished his family and friends.
John was enlisted in the Army from 1958 to 1961 serving in the Vietnam War. He belonged to the American Legion of Indian Lake in the Adirondacks.
He was the Principal at Paideia School in Westchester from 1968 to 1972. John retired on July 5, 1991 after 34 years of teaching for the NYC Board of Education, ending his tenure at Samaritan Village in Ellenville. After his retirement he taught Education at Oglala Lakota College, South Dakota for two years. He also was an Adjunct Professor for numerous local colleges.
On July 9 1983, John married Karen Pease in Stanfordville. Karen survives at home.
John is survived by his beloved wife, Karen; children, Megan and her husband, Gregg Hogancamp, Amy Tice and Sarah Tice; grandchildren, Alyssa and Kiley Hogancamp; step children, Michael and Tracey Finkle; step grandchildren, Shaun Curran, Cathleen Ladensack and Patrick and Sienna Finkle; step great grandchildren, Payton Finkle, Amelia Hertel, Leela Finkle and Aiden Curran; brothers, Martin and William Tice and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his two daughters, Nomi and Hope Tice.
As per Johns' wishes cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held on April 28, 2018 at 11:00am, at Allen Funeral Home, 1605 Main St., Pleasant Valley, NY 12569. Burial will take place in the family plot at Indian Lake Cemetery in the Adirondacks.
