Joseph LaMontagne Obituary

Joseph T.

LaMontagne

WILLISTON PARK - Joseph T. LaMontagne, 54, of Williston Park passed away on Saturday, April 5th at Winthrop Hospital surrounded by family.

Born on November 7, 1959 in Far Rockaway to Bridie Maloney and George LaMontagne.

On August 2nd, 2011, Joseph married his best friend Paula (Minyard) LaMontagne, who survives at home.

In addition to his wife, he is also survived by his brother George and Ellen (George and Kevin), his sister Marie Dave Falcon (Davey and Steve), his sister Maggie and John Crumb (Johnny, James And Bridget), his Brother Sean (Seanie and Shamus), his five stepchildren, J.T., Nick, Gina, David and Jalicia, His beloved granddaughters, Trinity, Akili, Oriana, Braylin and his grandson Jayden. He is also survived by several aunts, uncles, cousins and some of the greatest group of men that he called friends and brothers that any man could ever want.

Having overcome a troubled early life, battling his demons, Joe rose above that to live a second life, a very accomplished one. Some of the things that Joseph was most proud of were working for St. Joes in the Poughkeepsie Guest House and then working for the same Franciscan Friars that saved his life many years before at SCI (Graymoor) for almost a decade. Giving back to men what was so freely given to him. He was a proud member of Alcoholics Anonymous for more than 20 years.

Joseph was a huge music lover, a passionate Jets and Mets fan and he loved to fish.

Heaven gained an angel, Joe will be sadly missed, but never forgotten. Family and friends may call Thursday 2-5 & 7-9:30 at Thomas F. Dalton Funeral Home, 29 Atlantic Avenue, Floral Park, NY 11001. In Lieu of Flowers, please send donations to SCI - 21 Franciscan Way, P.O. Box 150, Garrison, NY 10524.

Paula I am so sorry for your loss.
Big Joe thank you again for being an amazing man, you were inspirational in my sons sobriety and I thank God each day.
When someone dies,a cloud turns into an angle, and flies up to tell God to put another flower on a pillow. A bird gives the message back to the world, and sings a silent prayer that makes the rain cry. People disappear, but they never really go away. The spirits up there put the sun to bed, wake up grass, and spin the earth in dizzy circles. Sometimes you can see them dancing in a cloud during the day time, when they are suppose to be sleeping. They paint the rainbows and also the sunsets and make waves splash and tug at the tide. They toss shooting stars and listen to wishes. And when they sing wind songs, they whisper to us,don't miss me too much. The view is nice and I'm doing just fine.

Thank you for saving my brothers life and help him find himself throughout a difficult time in his life. I never got the chance to meet you, however our family could never thank you enough for the encouragement you gave Ben to have a positive out look on life and giving him the resources he needed to stay sober. You will be missed. Thank you for being you, god bless.

Hey Joe, boy am I gonna miss sending you that stupid salutation from Jimi Hendrix' song....I am still in shock that you are gone from this earth. Our paths crossed in so many ways for so many years growing up in FP but it wasn't until the 90's that we met and became friends. We had a mutual respect for each other and worked together very well. We learned from one another. We enjoyed music together. We visited each other even when we lived miles apart. I was so happy for you when you got married (never say never). You and Paula glowed that day and in many subsequent photos I saw of the 2 of you vacationing, etc. Joe, we had the type of relationship where we didn't need to see or talk to each other everyday-- alotta time could go by but one of us would reach out to the other and time would melt away as if we'd just spoken yesterday. I am sad we never got to do lunch again. Please hold a seat for me up there for when I eventually get there we surely will break bread again. Thank You and Love you, Joe. Geryl
